I play 4 for the combat.
I play 3 for the environment.
I play NV for the writing.

Three ingredients that taste good on their own. It's like the ingredients for pepperoni pizza.

The pepperoni is good and you can eat those alone. The cheese is good, and you can also eat it alone. The sauce is good, and if you want you can eat it alone as well.

But when you mix them together, maybe add in some extra herbs and spices to make it perfect, and cook it thoroughly, you now have a delicious pizza all to yourself. That's what 5 should be.

You know, 3 had a special place in my heart. My brother was in the service and I was home but we’d connect over 360 when he had the time. He’d tell me about this game he played (FO3) and described it in such a way that my imagination flew all over the place. He came home on leave and got me a copy and it was a blast! He watched the choices I made, watched me play the game for nights straight and even after everything below, I still love what I had back then.

Over the years, I was a die-hard 3 fan, but he preferred new Vegas. I just couldn’t get into new Vegas and I couldn’t put my finger on it. We both loved 4 when it came out, but after a while, he lost interest. We started watching lore videos, game stuff from the first two fallouts and we began asking stuff like “why are super mutants in DC?” “Why the enclave?” “Why the brotherhood of steel?” “How could a vault replicate the FEV? Why not make it something else?” And with a lot of the inconsistencies that 3 and four had, we questioned writing choices entirely from Mr. Pagliarulo’s side. I gave New Vegas a try and took off running with it! The dialogue, the writing, the conflict, it all just felt so much better.

I was sad because I grew somewhat disillusioned of these games I used to swear by but my brother told me something that can apply to every fandom. “You can still love something and be critical to it. That just proves you are willing to see the flaws in the things you love and appreciate them more for the good things you like but not be blind to the problems.”

To this day, I’ll still play NV and Skyrim modded. Just wish 4 took off like Skyrim did, in terms of mods and what not.
