The guy that bought the Rolex 50 years ago didn’t look at it as an investment. It was by accident of history that his watch was worth so much. If he had bought an equivalent amount of Walmart stock at that time, for instance, his return would almost triple-fold.

The best $1000 watch you can buy is one that you'll love. You don't need to make a $1000 into an investment. Most of them won't be, and the ones that will be an investment probably won't suit your needs. If you want to invest, stocks will give you better returns than any watch under $10k.

I personally feel like the best value for a 1000 bucks is either the Hamilton Murph -39mm or the Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro 300!

The cheapest Grand Seiko is about $2500. They. only go up in price from there. Not sure if he was actually thinking Seiko as the best you can get for under $1000.

Longines are reasonably priced and have been around for ever, they are good entry level swiss watches, they don't hold their value quite as well but they are still decent swiss made watches.

I can tell you. I just bought a Hamilton Pilot Pioneer. $700. The reissue of the W10. Best every day watch I’ve ever owned. All this stuff about movements. That hamilton’s ETA is losing about -1 sec per day. It’s great. It’s retro. It’s awesome. And a conversation piece.
