Add Bluetooth to an old amp with the Logitech Bluetooth Adaptor

This video seems to have caused a surprising amount of confusion. The number one question asked by probably a dozen people in the first hour was - "Why didn't I use Chromecast Audio' The copy and paste answer is as follows: "My family streaming music subscription is with Apple Music (which doesn't have a Chromecast app) and I wanted to auto-connect whenever the HiFi was powered up, so Airplay was also out of the question".

This video will no doubt be a little bit too basic for many subscribers to this channel...but it is a simple how-to video for everyone else. Not everyone knows how a cheap bluetooth audio adaptor can be to play Apple/Spotify/Pandora streamed music back though a decent HiFi system - this video has been created for those people who want to see this demonstrated.

See the video section between 00:07 and 04:35 to see this explained in more detail. ;-)

Things have gone a bit weird in the comments - Probably a good time to turn off the laptop now and watch some TV. I'll check in again in a few days. Please try and have fun and enjoy things in the meantime.

I wish all the reviewers had your voice and accent... I'm Mexican and sometimes I can't understand a word some other reviewers are saying, also great quality videos! I'd like to see more reviews about audio equipment, vinyl, tape and other strange audio formats... I didn't know about the tefifon until I saw your videos...

This video is now 3 years old or so.... and those older bluetooth receivers reduced audio quality because the data had to be compressed to fit onto the bluetooth bandwidth. Nowadays you can buy a bluetooth receiver that has a DAC (digital to analog conversion) chip with the aptX coding protocol, which upsamples the digital music file and increases the dynamic range and signal to noise. In short, with this new bluetooth coding protocol combined with a DAC chip, you get the advantages of bluetooth streaming at near CD quality.

I'm impressed with how quickly it picks up the connection, I use a Bluetooth headset for music and you have to press play on the unit to connect. I have a couple of AV conversion boxes using USB power and recently bought a USB hub with power switches so I can switch them on and off manually, one hogs an HDMI connection if left on and they do get surprisingly warm.

After having seen your video, I realised this was exactly what I was looking for.
Ordered one, got it, installed it in a few minutes and it simply does what it is supposed to do. Splendid.
Thanks for your video !

I have one of the Logitech recievers, and I can say that the latency is impressively low and the connection is surprisingly stable and extremely quick to connect. (As a test, I threw my phone across the room onto my bed, and at low latency it didn't drop any data.)

This is the type of solution I was brought up to find with technology, something I can add to my existing setup to achieve something that people pay hundreds if not thousands for, great video Mat!

Brilliant, just what I wanted to know about these things. Been pondering getting one and wondered how well they worked - and now I know. Thanks!

I bought one of those and they are great. I paired mine with a mini amp and hooked it up to my out door speakers. So much better than listening to the tinny sound of your phone speakers....LOUDER too..lol thanks for the video Matt look forward to more. -John

Somehow I missed this one when you first published it. I'm glad I finally did see it, because it makes listening to music in my garage/shop much more convenient (obviously I've bought one). I used to plug my iPhone into a 1/8" stereo jack to RCA plug adapter that led to my old Yamaha stereo receiver driving a pair of those old Radio Shack Minimus 7's. This gets to be a bit of a hassle, especially if I get a text/call. I have the Logitech box powered by a switched outlet on my receiver, so all I have to do is turn on the receiver and open the Pandora app. When I leave the shop, I just turn off the receiver. That's it. No messing around with cables or turning on/off casting, like with Chromecast Audio, something I had considered before seeing this video. A friend of mine has one of those, and it's better than nothing but is kind of fiddly to use. Thanks!

I bought one of these about two weeks ago and love it! I have a vintage stereo system which is separate from my TV/theatre surround system and this device suits my needs perfectly. I haven't tested the limit of the range of the bluetooth signal but i have ventured 15-20 feet away from the BT receiver with no loss of signal.

These are cool gadgets. I will probably get this and hardwire a power supply in my car to get Bluetooth streaming back on my factory fit stereo in my car.

The only reason I didn't use bluetooth for my hifi is that I have had issues with it stuttering, then the music changing pitch/speed so that it can "catch up" - I rely on music for my own personal therapy and find that sort of thing during a track can completely wreck an evening, so I went down the Chromecast Audio route as I use Spotify for music streaming.

Granted, I have to tap the relevant buttons on whichever device to begin the casting, but it has been so reliable that I can forgive it for that and for what the system is used for and how I sometimes use my tablet, the automatic connection whenever power is present wouldn't work for us, but it's encouraging to see you have the perfect solution for your own household.

Nothing can be said to turn me away from thinking it is brilliant that it is possible to stay comfy in your seat and browse through thousands of different artists and albums. I actually have such a setup in my bedroom rig and the main system in my lounge.

Using that thing for all tablets and phones for few years without any problem. One of the best buys ever.

Hi Techmoan, thanks for the video, very useful. I think I'll get one for my stepdaughter who does gigs. At the moment she has to plug in her iPhone or iPad into the PA and therefore keeps needing to go back to the PA, to select her next backing track, often turning her back on her audience. I'm hoping with this, she can Bluetooth her device to the PA and within reason not be confined to standing near the PA during her performance. Thanks

Love the idea for hiding the power bar. I just bought a ChromeCast Audio and was trying to find a better way to manage it all.
