You DO NOT NEED a Bluetooth Stereo Receiver or a Bluetooth AV Receiver to do this!!!
A Bluetooth transmitter gives your old non-Bluetooth AVR the ability to transmit audio wirelessly via Bluetooth into your Bluetooth Headphones or Bluetooth Speakers. However, Bluetooth Transmitters cannot be paired with your Mobile Device.
To play music from your Mobile Device such as your Phone or your Tablet wirelessly into your old stereo AVR, you'll need a Bluetooth Receiver instead. The Bluetooth Receiver can "receive" audio wirelessly via Bluetooth from your phone and transmit the signal into your AVR/Speakers for Amplification.
However, plugging a transmitter into your AV Receiver's audio output port may MUTE the speakers that are connected to the AVR's other audio out ports. To resolve this, you'll need a special Bluetooth adapter that can function as a Transmitter AND a Receiver at the same time... something like Avantree's Orbit or Oasis Plus. They'll allow the headphone AND the speakers to function at the same time.
