The 'brutal' consequences of Red Bull's latest F1 wipeout by a Mercedes

Red Bull had its Hungarian Grand Prix ruined thanks to an incident triggered by a Mercedes. This time it was the first corner pile-up caused by Valtteri Bottas, which managed to impact (literally and figuratively) both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. In this video Scott Mitchell details the pain Red Bull suffered as a result, from Verstappen's difficult afternoon battling with a heavily damaged car, to more repair bills, more lost points in the championship fight, and grid penalties that now look inevitable for both Red Bull drivers later in the season.

It says a lot about how bad the Hass is that a car missing half of its barge board was still much quicker

I really don't understand why you'd get a penalty when you change an engine due to a crash that wasn't your fault. Surely they're allowed given the rule is there to stop teams using a new engine every race and getting max performance, not to punish those who've already suffered through others actions

The FIA needs to fix the engine penalty crap when an engine gets trashed in a crash caused by others.

(0:47) Justice according to FIA:
- Bump your main competitor into the crash barriers at 300 km/h (and into the hospital): "No worries, Lewis, 10 seconds penalty"
- Bowl half the competition out of the first corner: "No big deal, Valtteri, 5-place grid penalty"
- Have 0.7 litres of gas missing at the end of a 300km race: "Sebastian, you axe murderer, DISQUALIFICATION!" ;-)

Forget Max v Lewis, forget RB v Merc, there is clearly a LOT wrong with a cost cap rule that penalises the innocent and assists the guilty.

Toto : max is only 1 DNF away
Lewis : prepare for trouble
Bottas : and make it double...

Due to the cost cap, the 2nd half of this championship battle will be defined by and probably determined by each team’s rate of attrition.

simple, when an accident occurs, and a penalty is applied to the driver at fault, the damages caused by said driver should be deducted from his teams budget. and not the team with damage.
this rule would suit perfectly with the current cost cap.

If the cost cap is gonna work it NEEDS to take into account costs incurred by other teams committing penalties.

What we've learned this year is that penalties need a proper going over and revised.

You just can't have the same penalty rules on a "infinite amount of money" championship with a cost cap one, simple as that.

Incredible how a lack of fuel sample cost you a race, and taking 5 cars out of a race only cost you 5 places in the starting grid!! F1 justice is just nuts

I hope that going forward, f1 introduces a crash voucher system for allowing teams to replace broken parts from crashes that were not their own fault and prevent them from taking grid penalties if they have to do something like replace an engine due to crash damage

The FIA penalty is okay if the gap of performance between each Constructor was thin, so 10 second penalty or grid penalty are okay because we had a level playing field. The problem is, thats not what happens right now, because the gap between the Constructors is bigger than ever. So like Horner said, 5 grid penalty for Bottas and then he can retake the podium position in 2-3 laps 🤷

I thought the cost cap was mainly for development, not the cost of the actual parts themselves...
