In this video we'll take a look at the infamous unit known as "Red Cell" or "Red Team." The origin of Red Cell goes back to when Richard Marcinko handed over control of SEAL Team Six and created "Red Cell". This special unit was formed with a mission to expose vulnerabilities within the United States military.

I met Marcinko and worked with him and a few others very briefly in 2005 and remained in touch with him up until his death. Great guy and there’s more to him than just a superb counterterrorism expert.

Miss you, brother.

I was a civilian at NavSta TI in the late 80’s and they paid a visit. Walked in from the private marina and took over the Command building like they owned the place.

Red cell's concept is a necessity for our current times. We can't afford to overlook anything let alone our own weaknesses.

I know what Red Cell can do for sure, they hit the base I was stationed at in Japan. Had base security running all over the place blasting sirens, they took a galley hostage, came on the brow of two ships and took the ID checkers hostage, also simulated blowing up a base theater that at the time had over 100 people inside watching a moving. The strange thing was base security knew they were coming, but they had no idea how they would get on base. The base commander lost his command over it, it was a huge stink for the pacific fleet. I was off base when all this happened and caught hell the next day trying to get through the front gate, it took about 1.5 hours to get in, I was ship's company and all the guys that lived off base were late to work.

8 years Navy & military contractor to SF for 17 years. A few things are true: The Navy can't tolerate embarrassment. REGNAV does not play nice with DEVGRU. REGNAV has more spheres of influence than DEVGRU.

For those who don’t know. Red Cell was Re-activated in 05/06. Haven’t heard much since then.

I was an E3 standing guard in a small guard house at the head of an Aircraft carrier pier in N Va wintertime late 80's. There were 2 Aircraft carriers on that pier. I got tap on my shoulder and a voice said, "you're dead MF'er" Red Cell then proceded down the pier Nd up the Officer gangplank to assault mt ship. I got written up but it was later squashed bc some high ranked officers got punked along with me.

In trying to help save them from REAL bad guys, he embarassed some officers and they went after him. No appreciation whatsoever. RIP Marcenko, you did well.

It’s so Navy Seal to have your own camera crew.

Demo Dick was my SEAL idol. As a Seawolf pilot in VN, I followed him and his antics with glee. Agreed, he went a little too far at Seal Beach, but he did exactly what a terrorist would do to gain access to a nuclear weapon site. R.I.P. Dicky

Demo Dick as he was called, was a legend. Sadly, he passed away in 2021. Anyway, I read his book Rogue Warrior and it was fascinating.

I met richard marcinco in 1995 at a gurney mills mall booksigning. He was a huge man. Massive hands scary eyes. He was 60 yrs old and could still be an operator.

We need to have more men capable of this kind of operation. Being a retired Recon Marine and a True Patriot we need to "FIX" the problems in our nation's capital, with EXTREME PREJUDICE.

agree with red cell concept, been there and done that but for this specific video, taking a guard (active or civilian) then dunking him had zero purpose. Once they take someone, give em a coffee (point is proven) Anything beyond that is ... pointless and apparently illegal

Marcinko in his Vietnam years had a price on his head by the Vietcong; I think it was $20, 000. A lot of money in those days. He was probably the closest thing to a "true warrior" the kind that know no fear, turn things around where they are the true hunters, dressing like the Vietcong, black outfit, bare feet, eat the same food so that their body odor and "scat" resembles that of a Vietcong, learn the local language, knows what to look for regarding booby traps and loves the kill. Never comes back with PTSD because what her dished out was far worse than what he recieved or experienced. It's what all of Special Forces Strives for but few achieve. You have to be "wired" a bit different than your ordinary Western white boy. For him it was all probably just a game and the possibility of death was already something you brushed aside so that you wouldn't get distracted. He was the ultimate adrenaline junky and could probably spot a phoney officer in under 30 seconds.Incompetence probably disgusted him the most.

Having studied the team and Marcinko as well as knowing some of the players it was obvious to me that they made an example out of Marcinko for making them look bad. They did what they were created to do - expose vulnerabilities. What gets left out of their story is that they gave a report on the Marine Barracks in Beirut that had his suggestions been implemented those Marines would not have died. Lyons was his protector and once they moved Lyons out of the way they punished Marcinko. To the day Marcinko died and even now he's still being mistreated by the Navy when they should have thanked him. RJ

I always wondered why no movie has been made about his first book Rogue Warrior. I see how Jack Carr books are being made into Prime movies but Marcinko books to me are way better.

Marcinko was hung out because when the team hit the base in the Phillipines , the commander of the base denied the team had breached the base . Then Marcinko brought out the video of the team capturing the base commanders wife and later leaving through the main gate driving the commanders rag top caddy. Admirals and generals aren't military they're politicians, Dick made them look bad so they burned him with trumped up charges. He still out foxed them, he retired before they busted him so he had his rank and full retirement

Another missing detail is that if they were caught they'd have a card they'd present with a colnel's contact to authenticate their mission. These operations still do happen as Shawn Ryan's show had a guest who did them with the nuclear football. He was in the middle of one such operation during 9.11 and got a call to abort and rtb as the country was under attack. That guy was then on the first team to the middle east.
