Olivia Rodrigo made a distinct splash into the pop music scene in 2021. Olivia made no secret of the fact that she was a huge fan of Taylor Swift even once referring to herself as “the biggest Swiftie in the whole world”.

It's really weird to me that people expect them to be super close when they have a huge age gap. I mean, I hugely admired one of my thirtysomething college professors, and she mentored me and said lovely things about me. But it wasn't like we were hanging out, and everything stayed strictly professional.

I really love both Swift and Rodrigo's work, but sometimes I suspect that maybe Rodrigo's hardcore fans were expecting her to be gifted a closer relationship with Swift than ever would've been realistic considering the generational difference. At Swift's age and stature, it's just business.

Its a jealous music industry. Just appreciate the music of young artist. Generations after generations, melodies are being sampled, so why single out this artist or other young artist. Don't be too hard on this. Some songs are just bound to sound similar. Also, sometimes your mind may be coming up with a melody or a beat and you don’t even realize that it’s from one you’ve heard before. It happens a lot. i like both of them. I also think that Olivia is young artist and she is bound to be influenced by TS, she was her big fan after all. I think that she should have checked with TS if she was taking such a huge inspiration from her (at the time) idol. Everybody know, by now, how possesive TS is about her work. And not gonna lie, I would be also uncomfortable if somebody samples me without notice/credits.

On the other hand, as I said, OR is starting. Giving her few years and albums, she will find her style and her creativity will shine through. And she will do amazing job, I am sure. ❤

I don’t like Taylor as a person, but she is an oustanding business woman. Olivia needs to learn how to be professional. If she’s going to take a source (eg. Taylor’s work) and use it for her own work, that’s fine, but give credit where credit is due.

Swifties, don't worship Taylor Swift like she's some kind of originator of all music. Most of her songs are also copied versions of other artists' songs and styles. Taylor is just brilliant at hiding her influences because she befriends them and makes them her squad. Better Than Revenge is a rip from the pages of Paramore (theme of the song is similar to Misery Business), and she made Haley her bestie so that she wouldn't notice. She does the same to many other artists like LORDE, Charlie XCX, Lana Del Rey etc. TS should also give credit to all the other artists that insipred her. If she demanded credits for DejaVu for Olivia's interpolation of the shouting/chanting style of singing, then she should also give the same credits to Charlie XCX for Cruel Summer because Charlie did the chanting/yelling style with Boom Clap before Taylor ever did.

It’s not Taylor’s job to “take anyone under her wing” and quite frankly I think it’s crazy for someone to say they idolize her and credit her as an influence for all of her music and then be surprised when she wants actual credit for the work.
