30 Days Cycling the World's Longest Coastal Route // World Bicycle Touring Episode 23

Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way is a 1,600 mile route that follows the western coast of the country from Kinsale in the south to Derry in the north. The route winds in and out of almost every cove and peninsula, guaranteeing a near constant procession of spectacular landscapes. We rode 1,200 miles of the route over about 30 days in April and early May, camping the majority of the time. Wind and rain challenged us constantly, but the majestic scenery and Irish hospitality kept us in great spirits for the entire ride!

After we finished the Wild Atlantic Way, we continued on into Northern Ireland and caught a ferry to Scotland, stay tuned for our next episode!

In the 1970's I rode every inch of the coast of the Republic of Ireland in annual stages. This Spring, 2024, I will complete the circumnavigation of the island of Ireland cycling a coastal route from Belfast to Dublin in my 81st year.
