Which is better, the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 or the Kia Niro EV? Both are part of the Hyundai group of vehicles but they approach the concept of EVs very differently. Automotive Engineer David Chao goes through his usual technical and quality inspection and points out exactly what he likes or doesn't like about the two electric cars.

Love your reviews. Very well balanced and articulated. Also, I appreciate how thorough you are when looking at fit and finish. We really like the Niro EV and are hoping prices will come down as more Kia EV6’s arrive at the dealerships. The Ionic 5 is a great looking and futuristic vehicle as well.

Wow, I really like how you're approaching and giving a review to cars. Never seen that before, I watched many YouTuber how they do it, but it is always the same.

I like your style! I subscribed directly!

I bought a Kia e Niro 2019 executive vers with 64KWh with low mileage. Yes, I got a great deal.
This is my second EV before I drove for a Hyundai Ioniq electric 28 KWh premium vers. I really like the driving comfort of the Classic Ioniq and felt the e Niro just the same sportiness driving style, only just a bit higher of the ground (crossover) but otherwise very similar.

e Niro is for know the perfect EV for my needs, enough mileage for long daily use and quiet spacey, and really fast!

recently drove some press fleet Niro EV's and was really impressed. build quality and fit and finish seemed great for a "cheap" car and the ev powertrain was great. Range was great too.

I actually think Hyundai Kia's EV and hybrid products are Superior to their regular ICE products. I often found the transmission programming of a lot of kia products to be finnicky. Much preferred driving their Electrified products

Can you please compare these cars against Vinfast's VF8/9? thanks

Good review. Vid needs more views and it’s always good to have a variety. I like the Ioniq a lot but like everything, you pay a lot for it now.

Great review with an alternative approach, but some things are weird. The Dashboard in the E Niro switches from the basic model ( I guess movie from internet used) to the more luxury model seen when driving at night. Displays are different in real models! Also you say "the sport mode doesn't make a huge difference, maybe only in transmission", both cars doesn't have any kind of transmission. The Kia e Niro is also a lot quicker with acceleration in sports mode then the ECO or Normal mode.

Note: This is vey important: The upload date of the video of Feb of 2022, should mean there is no way he is comparing a
2022 IONIQ 5 VS a 2023 KIA NERO: The 2023 KIA NERO was practically re-designed though it's only technically called a
''major refreash'' in everyday non engineeing speak, but there are enough real review's to know, that the only fair comparison is between
these two years, especially sine the MSRP spread's is not that great between them, in general the spread in the used marketplace is that you'll find a 4K higher asking price
in say the base trims of both models respectively, and before you focus too much on the higher 25 extra horsepower of the IONIQ 5, keep in mind, it's probably
neglible over the KIA NERO because it also weighs 500 lbs more in curb weight.

Depending on where you live is probably your biggest issue you should be focusing on: The IONIQ 5 is Rear Wheel DRIVE VS Front Wheel Drive in the KIA NERO,
and in general in snowy environments, the front wheel drive has advantages in those conditions, and there are plenty of strong opinions out there you should be exploring
when it comes to the differences beyond snow conditions as well: Beyond that, two of the larger differences are the larger 50 more miles of range for the IONIQ 5 and the
much faster Level 3 DC charging speeds, just to name a couple of it's bigger advantages, but the KIA NERO does have basially the same cargo capacity when the rear
seats are folded down as the IONIQ 5, which you would probably not have expected considering the much longer wheelbase of the IONIQ 5.

Interesting comparison but love it.

The criteria you used, Tesla’s nightmare!!

Great reviews, just what I was looking for! Kia is definitely a bargain. Do Tesla please!

Excellent review! I've owned a couple KIA's and they were great little commuters when they were new but once they got up in mileage and years they fell apart fast and my Hyundai wasn't much better. Resale value was an "F". Toyota is now my vehicle of choice.
