Is the price right? 2023 Kia Niro electric car review: S EV | New Hyundai Kona Electric rival tested

The 2023 Kia Niro EV small SUV is a new electric car that might not be immediately of interest, because its bigger brother, the EV6 large SUV, is seemingly hogging the spotlight. But maybe that shouldn't be the case.

You see, the Niro EV is cheaper than the EV6 but still offers a convincing driving range. It's also shares a lot of its features with the marketing darling, putting it in a good position to rattle the MG ZS EV and related Hyundai Kona Electric.

So, in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar puts the Niro EV's entry-level S variant through its paces to see if it handle country life with a family of three.

$65K is damn expensive for a base model when you can get a base model Kia Seltos for $30K. That's less than half the price. Years ago they were saying that by 2023 EVs were going to be the same price as an equivalent petrol engine car. That is never going to happen.... unless of course the governments start taxing the shit out of all non electric cars. So one day they will be the same price but not because electric vehicles will drop in price but rather because petrol cars will go through the roof to stop people from buying them

LOL at her silly comment that 0-100 in 7.8 seconds makes it more suitable as a city car. That's still quicker than most petrol engine family cars. Would she say a Falcon or Commodore is more suitable as a city car because it doesn't have a sub 8 second 0-100 time?

Ridiculous price. Doesn't compare to Atto 3 but not a mention of that competitor??? Its the same price as a Model 3. Ridiculous lack of value

Emily isn’t the only offender here, but presenters do need to know about units: Energy in EV’s is measured in kilowatt hours, not kilowatts per hour.

Why does Kia have so many EV SUVs all priced within spitting distance from $70k? The EV6 is far and away the obvious choice.

Also why does this channel review cars as if there are no alternatives/competition? Every car is "oh it works, takes me from A to B without killing me. Perfect! 7.5/10"
