Today, I want to cover the ten signs of a dying liver (end-stage liver disease). The liver can regenerate, but there is a point of limitation.

Once you get to a certain stage, the damage is almost impossible to reverse. However, if I personally had end-stage liver disease, I would do everything I could to try to reverse it.

The first two symptoms of a liver problem typically are:
1. Malaise (you just don’t feel quite right)
2. Fatigue

As things progress over the years, you may start to notice more indicators or signs of a dying liver.

10 signs of a dying liver:
1. Confusion or disorientation
2. Ascites
3. Severe itching
4. Yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes
5. No appetite
6. Weakness and fatigue
7. Nausea
8. Bloating
9. Edema (in the ankles and legs, especially the left side)
10. Bruising

Oh, I did make a mistake - I said liver is on the left side. This is false, it's on the right side and ankle/leg and edema is also on the right side more than the left.

I had liver disease from an autoimmune disorder called PBC. I had all those symptoms. One of the worst was the severe itching. My arms would be bleeding every day. Nothing would stop it. I got to the end stage. I was told I had only days left if that. I was bright gold. The toxins had gotten to my brain and I was not able to speak clearly or understand things. I couldn't walk without help. I just wanted it to be over and I prayed for God to take me home. I don't know how many days after that my 2 kids got a call that they had a donor liver that was a match.I remember the car ride there and thinking it was the last time I would be seeing anything so I looked for flowers and trees and anything that was beautiful. When we got to the hospital they started prepping me for surgery and did pre op blood work. They came back and said that I couldn't get the transplant because my blood work was unstable in something. I think potassium. I told the kid to take me home because I didn't want to die in the hospital. They all convinced me to stay in the hospital to stabilize me in case they found another match. A couple days later some poor guy in Georgia got into an accident (I am in Florida) . He was a better match. The original match for me had COVID, which would have been hard to overcome in my condition. They took a helicopter and picked up the guy and brought him to me and did the surgery. I made it through. It's been 10 months now. I take anti rejection meds every day. It's not easy but I worked hard with a physical therapist and I can walk my dog and do small chores in the house now. The meds come with a lot of side effects and they are still working to regulate my dose so it's not so hard on my kidneys and I get severe migraines from the meds. But every time I get to feeling down, I remember how I was before the surgery and how that young man saved my life. It was a true miracle. I'm now trying to offer hope and support to other transplant recipients and people suffering from liver disease

I quit drinking months ago. I was a heavy drinker for many decades. But I had a lot of these symptoms so I quit. 3 months later and I feel so much healthier. The itching gone, the bloated belly gone, the fatigue and malaise gone. I'm absolutely positive I was heading towards liver failure if I continued that lifestyle. BTW I am a 49 year old man and I will not pick up a drink again!

I had the pregnant look and most of my clothes were too big - just to accommodate by belly! I found a Dr Berg video that stated "you cannot lose weight while you have a fatty liver". The penny dropped and I stopped trying to lose weight and instead, focused on healing my liver.
It took ten months of keto and I.F. 19:5 to fix everything and lo-behold, 103 pounds disappeared from my body. I'm staying keto forever, because it is NOT a diet, but it is the correct human way of eating.

My husband had all those symptoms. We spent years at doctors offices and hospitals. No one would help him because he wasn't (sick enough). Then he was to sick for a liver transplant. He died at the age of 60. I feel that the medical professionals let him down.

I was diagnosed with end stage (decompensated) 3 years ago. It's said that this stage is not reversible. BUT I was actually able to reverse it with herbs & diet change (& of course no more alcohol). I am not on any meds, and they had to re-diagnose me as "compensated" about 2yrs ago.
Don't accept every diagnosis, & don't lose hope just because the physicians tell you something can't be done. I'm living proof that sometimes they're wrong. 💜✨.

My little brother at age 08 died of Acute liver failure this year. He was sick for 4 months. Today would've been his 9th birthday. Being in a third world country the health care system isn't that advanced. But I learned a lot from you Dr berg. Thank you for spreading your knowledge on this platform.

My father suffered most of those symptoms due to his bad liver condition. He also suffered from cardiac problems. At the end he died due to renal failure (as stated in his death certificate). People must stop drinking alcohol and/or high fructose corn syrup consumption to avoid liver problems. It is an emotional trauma to see a person that you love suffering from those conditions.

Hi Dr. Berg. I am from Malaysia and a nutritionist myself but you put me to shame. I am amazed at the amount of knowledge you have and the way you are helping all of us. You are practically saving so many lives. I don’t think I can thank you enough for the way you are educating us and making us healthy. You are God sent and I have shared your videos to as many people as I can. They will all benefit from your videos. Thank you so much Dr. Berg.

My father died now on the 24th of October. He went for a liver biopsy and had internal bleeding and died after the test. He had few platelets, had ascites and suspected liver cancer from cirrhosis of the liver. My family and I were not warned of the risk of the exam. The saddest thing is that my father walked to the hospital for the exam and left in a coffin.

This is a very good list of facts about end stage liver disease. I’m a nurse and I have witnessed all of these symptoms in my patients that are especially alcoholics. Also they bleed easily due to poor clotting factors because nutrients are not absorbed if the poor liver have to constantly clear the alcohol .Thank you Dr. Berg for the information and educational videos you post!!

My brother died from liver disease a year ago, yesterday. He was 55 and had not seen a doctor/dentist since high school. He was hiding the symptoms and by the time my family noticed and tried to help, it was too late. I Iive in another State, so I couldn't see his decline, but suspected he was ill because he complained about his back bothering him and I could hear his shortness of breath a few days before he died. Afterwards, I chatted with so many men, who admitted they don't get regular physicals, blood work, dental care, etc. How many men would still be alive had the just gotten a physical.

2 summers ago I was diagnosed with a severe fatty liver with fibrosis due to too many carbs, but also Hemochromatosis. Iron was damaging my liver. I was itchy as all heck all the time, but I also experienced severe night sweats & leg cramping - especially in my left hamstring. I have since had my Hemochromatosis treated with Phlebotomy Treatments, & gone KETO. I’ve lost 150lbs. My night sweats, itchiness & leg cramps are gone.

I developed a varicele and found out I had cirrhosis of the liver. I didn't drink hard alcohol but I had went on a drinking binge for about 4 yrs because my brother had died from drug abuse. I just tried to numb my pain 💔 and it took its toll. I began seeing a Transplant dr but he told me I would have to be dieing to get a Transplant and said liver doesn't always take and if it fails I would die in the hospital. I quit drinking cold turkey when I found out. Has been 5yrs but I have been diagnosed with lymphedema and on lactulose for ammonia on the brain. I have next to no white blood cells. We all deal with pain differently and I didn't think I could get sick so fast. I have memory loss plus swollen and jaundice. I am at peace with my maker. I hope by sharing this I can make a difference for anyone . Keep yourself busy with work or just go for a walk. It isn't worth it. God Bless everyone who reads this 🙏.

And that is the exact type of things I don't want to look at. I will listen, find 4 things from this list in my body and start worry.
Can we get a video on 10 signs that everything is ok with a liver? 😀

Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest. It’s about who walked into your life, said, “I’m here for you”, and proved it.
