I have trusted that I am saved because Jesus has paid it all and there is nothing that I can do to earn my salvation. I have been doubting my salvation recently though because I believed in things contradictory to the gospel after I got saved (at least I think I have been saved).

For example, when I was first saved I believed that Old Testament saints were saved by works and that works were the proof of salvation. These doctrines are contradictory to salvation, yet they were so difficult for me to understand and took me a great deal of time to come to the understanding that they are false.

What does it mean if we hold views contradictory to the gospel? Does that mean that we have trusted in ourselves? If that is the case, I shudder to think of what other views I hold that may be contradictory to the gospel that I didn’t even realize.

I simply don't understand those who think there is anything they could do, say, think, pray etc. that could ever come close to attaining heaven. "All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags" Isaiah 64:6 " We are all as an unclean thing".

And the fruits will come just like the wind comes. It is a spiritual process. It is not human power. This is why it is not a religion but a way of life.
