I am 69 years old and I think it's the most beautiful song I have ever had the pleasure to hear.

Unfortunately, when she sang this song, she was in her worst condition due to pneumonia. But she still managed to do it..

Freya, great reaction video. It is interesting that, as an expert in Opera, you can move to a more 'Pop' genre with such appreciation. The other fans have pointed out that she was recovering from pneumonia here, so her voice is diminished a bit in this performance. I don't know if the fans have told you this, but she designs the musical arrangement, chorus, orchestra, and staging for all of her live performances. So, you are seeing every bit of her enormous artistic talent in all of these performances. Here, when the music stops and Sohyang soars up to sing "I", it must have echoed across Heaven and the Angels surely stopped for a moment to hear one of their own. Keep going. It is a happy world of Sohyang.

Fun Fact:

Brendan Graham, the lyricist of You Raise Me Up, was so moved by this Sohyang's performance so that he contacted her. He even contacted the Korean embassy to contact Sohyang. And he told Sohyang that 'You Raise Me Up' has been arranged in about 165, 000 versions so far, and the version sung by Sohyang is the best version and is his favorite. He also gifted Sohyang some songs he had written. One of the singers who sang this song, Westlife's Shane Filan, also said that he got goosebumps all over his body after hearing Sohyang's version.

At the time of this performance, she thought this might well be her last one due to health issues. Just prior to marrying, she was found to have what was thought to be a benign growth. During surgery it was found to be much larger than thought and cancerous, so the operation resulted in her being unable to conceive. During the surgery, she needed a transfusion and that resulted in her contracting Hepatitis which then depressed her immune system and resulted in repeated respiratory infections like the one pneumomia she had days prior to this performance. She was released from the hospital, but told not to perform...she did so anyway. There is now an antiviral that keeps the Hepatitis at bay and has allowed her immune system to rebound resulting in improved health for her. I am so pleased at that as she is a gift to humanity and we need her singing for many more years.

I loved your reaction to So Hyang. She is my favorite singer of all time. I have always gravitated to powerful female voices with amazing range. I have not found any other singer with all the perfected techniques So Hyang has in her bag. Range, control, breath control, runs, riffs, dynamics, power, and smoothness from low to high along with her ability to convey incredible emotion, it is all present in huge amounts. I just think she's a savant. I have watched interviews where she has said her voice is a gift from God, and that she practices every performance a hundred times beforehand. She is the poster woman for being gifted and working tirelessly. Thanks for the great break down. I have subscribed.

There are many songs and many singers in the world, but it is doubtful if there is a more beautiful and moving song than this. The stage lighting, costumes, arrangement, backup singers, and vocals are all top-notch. In particular, I am always truly grateful to her for singing such a difficult song so naturally and easily, often making it impossible to even feel the complexity of the techniques she possesses, despite constantly battling respiratory illnesses like pneumonia. How can she sing like that without even learning? Her singing, both vocally and emotionally, is truly the very definition of a masterpiece that will be a role model and inspiration for many singers.
