Want to buy a vintage Rolex, Omega, Tudor, Cartier, etc...? Well then check out the T&H watch shop would ya!

The Tudor Ranger...Michael recently made a video on it and compared it to the Rolex Explorer and the Black Bay 36. How does it stack up? Now that we have Christian on the floor what does he think? Is this another homer from Tudor or does it just not stack up? Let us know you opinion below!

As soon as someone online called the hour hand on the Ranger "butt-plug shaped" it was ruined for me.

Damn the inter-web.

Damn it to hell.

I stated after I bought my 41mm Tudor Ranger that I would buy a new Tudor Ranger if they would only make it in a 38-39mm version. My local Tudor AD has had squat when it comes to any newer (2022) models. When Tudor announced the new Ranger in 39mm I really wanted to like it. And I did sort of, but had never seen one in person and had only Tudor and watch reviews to look at to make any determination.

Fast forward to 3 days ago and I'm at Heathrow airport in London awaiting my flight back to the US. Like any watch geek I go over to the Watches of Switzerland shop in the International terminal and finally have a chance to actually see the new Tudor Ranger. They had just one with bracelet. I'd love to tell you that I fell in love with it at first sight but I think I was too busy figuring out the exchange rates and thinking about getting home. But I pulled the trigger, bagged up the watch, and brought it home. Finally yesterday I got it on wrist. And you know, I think I love this watch.

Even I had some reservations about this Ranger before putting it on wrist. You know, the empty space on the dial, the faux patina thing, and a couple other things reviewers had talked about. But this Ranger just works. Then I started thinking about this watch and the dial. In my mind it sort of reminds me of the Rolex Explorer 1016; just bigger and brawnier. And I really like that look. So I would say don't pass judgement on this watch till you have it on wrist. Oh and by the way, with the strong US Dollar to the British Pound it worked out to about $2, 600.

The Ranger is 100% a watch you need in person in the metal. It doesn't look the best in pictures, but in person it's a totally different watch. I love it!

The field book idea is absolutely brilliant. I think a NATO included would have been great too (See the Pelagos including a rubber dive strap in the box). Tudor, pay these people for doing your marketing job. I can see the case for a "Chronometer Officially Certified" (2 lines) on the dial, but I'd want to see it first. The AD I've been in to since that came out didn't have one in stock, so I haven't seen it in person. My issue is the color of the lume doesn't look quite right to me. I love the fauxtina lume on the Black Bay Pro, and the slightly different Black Bay 58 creamy lume. I think Tudor nails it better than anybody on the fauxtina. I think they just missed here. I would also love to see that printing turned into the 3D lume of the Black Bay Pro. I think the 39 is a great size (for me) though. The 41mm Ranger would have fit, but was maybe a bit more than necessary for a field watch (don't get me started on the non-fitted bracelet end links). I don't think there is a shortage of big watches for guys that want those, so I think the increased availability of smaller watches is great for those that are smaller, or just prefer that.

I'm a tall guy, and 34 or 36 just wouldn't work on me like it does on some people. Sure, I could wear 36mm dress watch, but I rarely need a dress watch. I haven't had anything even as small as 36mm for 30 years, well before the big watch trend. Even back then, it was 38-40mm. I love a good 38 like the Seiko SBP155 Alpinist, but on me 38/39 looks like 36 does on a lot of other people. I've seen it literally stated in YouTube comments that any guy wearing bigger than 36 is compensating. Do you tell any guy wearing bigger than a small t-shirt that actually fits their body that they're compensating? No. Different size watches fit different size wrists/statures. The sub has been in the 40mm range for basically even longer than I've been alive. Classic sizes are classic for a reason. I think the small watch trend will be just that, a trend like the big watch trend. Watches appropriately sized and somewhere in the middle are always going to look great.

I just cannot manage to find anything about that dial that I like😂 great case though like you both said! Would definitely look better smaller. But now Tudor offers an Explorer alternative in a size that Rolex doesn’t offer anymore. Filling in the gaps.

The Ranger reminds me of the 1016 explorer, without the gold surrounds, and bling free. I love it.

I like the numbers on the Ranger. I really like that the Ranger doesn’t have a lot of print.

I love the proportions of the new Ranger. The lume looks like a vintage lume I own rather than a fauxtina.

I do absolutely love recent Tudor releases, very artfully produced and you can actually get one! However I gotta side with Michael on this one it does look like they could’ve added a little bit more to the dial or changed the format great video guys🔥

The only bad thing about Tudor Ranger is, it is way too big. 36mm would be much better, even 34mm is not small too. The thing is, for simple layout watches, it should be smaller. Otherwise, it doesn't look balance on wrists.

I think of the Ranger as a field watch that an army Ranger might wear. In that sense it gives you the time in a very easy and fast to view dial. Seems like more text would reduce the effect of that intent. I 100% agree that a field notebook should come with the watch!

This ranger is one of best watches Tudor has released. I definitely want to get one.

Visited a Tudor boutique 6 months ago hoping to purchase either:
1) FXD
2) BB Pro
3) Pelagos 39
I tried a Ranger just for the heck of it… and ended up connecting with the Ranger far more than the original 3 I was considering. I was totally shocked as I had wanted the FXD for over a year…

Moral of the story: try watches on in person whenever possible!

Also brushed watch bezels & cases add substance & strength that’s hard to quantify.

I like the Ranger on the hybrid strap, I have tried one on. I am wearing a 34mm Kienzle which was my grandads, then my dads, it has been well abused over the years, yet it's still going and looks great, I have a 7inch wrist and if I wore a watch set for my dads wrist it would spin round on my wrist, yet he wore this watch for years.

The Tudor Ranger is a Sinn 556a with a much better case, a much better movement, and a much better bracelet.

This is a well considered and very fair review. I agree with both of you. The dial is a little bland but otherwise the overall design is great, brilliant case, brushed finishing takes scratches etc much better. This is designed to be a tool watch to be used. The movement is also excellent and the price is great. The explorer has great heritage but nowadays is fashionable and pretty and not realistically something you wear hiking up a mountain or camping etc. the notebook idea is wonderful. Keep it up chaps

The BB36 is the way to go, especially the blue dial.

You get black dial in some low light, and a great “Hamptons Blue” in good light.

Better case size too.

I like the lack of Text. It makes ist more serious. Less G-Shock more utility and adventure. That's why I don't like dive watches. Plenty useless things. The numbers on the bezel are pure decor. It's not even pretty. In my opinion the Tudor Ranger is the perfect outdoor timepiece.
