With each passing year, Tudor steps further out from under Rolex's shadow. We would even argue that Tudor has become the more exciting brand for watch enthusiasts to follow.

In this video, we go watch by watch to show how Tudor is leading the way with product innovations and how they've stayed grounded with their accessibility and brand mission.

Which watch brand do you think comes out on top here?

Good thing about Tudor, no one creates fakes, so the authenticity of your watch is never in question .

Very well done Thomas. I've worn a Submariner for the last 53 years. (I lost my first one which was a 1680 purchased in 1970 while in Vietnam. My wife replaced with 16610) I have a 1 watch collection that serves me very well. But you really made lots of interesting points I hadn't really considered about Tudor before. So 5 stars. And I did subscribe.

Just my 2 Cents: At first, Tudor was Rolex's little brother to experiment on. But I don't think Rolex knew that they were going take off this big and be this successful. Plus with all the garbage Rolex ADs pull off just to get a plane jane SS Sports watch really killed their credibility and people just got tired of it. Can't blame them, especially if you got the money and not a patient person. Tudor was right there with open arms and took care of them. Good on Tudor. Hope they keep it going.

I bought my first Tudor last month and I’m very impressed! It looks like an Explorer, has an in-house chronometer movement and it feels like a very high quality watch on my wrist.

True and it used to be that Tudor was used a testing vehicle by ROLEX group. The first watch with WR of 200 m from Rolex group was a Tudor back in 1958. The first automatic Chronograph by Rolex group was the Tudor “Big block” bearing a valjoux 7750.

I have 4 Rolexes and got my first Tudor- the Black Bay 54. Love the slim profile of the 54!

Good video. I am getting a bit nervous about all these "would you recommend Chrono24 to a friend?" surveys. Are you guys selling? Looking for a new investor?

I own Tudor watches. I own Rolex watches. To the extent you enjoy HBS case studies ("Wow! The management structure of Waffle House's franchises is so innovative!"), the evolving corporate personalities of the two brands is quite interesting. To most people, it's not top of mind. Whether it impacts one's enjoyment or preferences for the watches is personal.

As for the availability of Rolex watches, it's kinda old news in light of recent developments. Over the last few years, Rolex has been jacking the MSRP of their watches up very substantially. They are really quite expensive (perhaps unjustifiably so). Second, Rolex prices on secondary markets (including Chrono24) are coming down. As to many (not all) Rolex watches, the price differential is so insignificant that you can buy a watch at or below MSRP in secondary markets. This is not the case with every watch, but there are plenty of good options at compelling prices. If you are willing to go "neo-vintage", the options are even more abundant. Of course, if you must have a Daytona or GMT Master II... I guess life is what you make it.

I own both and like both. Not going into prices, Rolex is a perfect watch. Tudor is a really good watch thats about 5-10 years of refinement away from being amazing.

I'm not sure how experimental Tudor really is. Their biggest hits are mostly faux vintage designs. There's not much new technology wise.

I feel like Tudor is using a lot of Rolex older model watches as there planning. BB58 and the pro are vintage takes on older Rolex models. Even there prices reflect the Rolex vintage prices of back in the day.. you use to be able to buy a sub for $3k, BB58 now cost 3k with that older vintage sub feel.

Actually both are just tool watch brands imo.

The only reason I’d get a Rolex at msrp is so I can flip it immediately to make a profit. No way I’m buying a Rolex at above msrp or by playing AD’s game.

True. What’s the point of paying gray market prices for Rolex when you can buy affordable, brand new Tudor models. Big fan, I do dare!

Love both brands but the hype around them is such that many top class novelties at W and W were relatively ignored. The JLC Reverso Tribute chrono was an absolute standout for me. I'm sure others have their favourites that were invisible in the rush to see what Rolex and Tudor had done.

Tudor: "Ugliest Hour Hand in the Business." That's a Quote from the comment section of a Hoodinke Review of a Tudor Watch I saw years ago. Could not agree more.
Very hard to look at.

tudor’s a testing ground for rolex. Im not complaining though. Their hits are pretty good, their misses though feel like its done on purpose to not cannibalise the sister brand.

Absolutely agree. I just ordered the new BB58 with red bezel and jubilee bracelet, I think its awesome… I have a su Marriner 16610 LV i love it but Rolex fu*ked up, too much hype! I bought it 15 years ago in Amsterdam airport and bought it tax free, which is absolutely impossible now, I also buy two more, but second hand, after that I got my first Tudor peagos and I absolutely fell in love with the brand!
I think Rolex uses tudor to test the market trand
However, they are two associated brands and always founded by the same guy (Hans Wilsdorf)

If the Black Bay series have the ceramic bezel, that would be more exciting.
