So you're telling me cleaning my room isn't just a way to procrastinate? Amazing.

I agree, I have ADD and just the action of cleaning, makes me a lil bit more productive and proud of myself

I'm working on it. Laundry first. Almost to the point of getting my own laundry done. Next is the bathroom. Recovering from a 2 year depression and ADHD burnout and anxiety.

I take this a step further and live minimalistically; it improves pretty much every aspect of my life directly or indirectly.

Yes. That's also why I love winter. Everything is covered in snow, it's calming to have limited amount of details. It's more quiet too, because the snow muffles echoes.

You're not just trying to ignore the clutter, you're also trying to ignore all the shame you have about being a messy person and all the specific emotions that are tied to the stuff (like a giant pile of unopened bills)

Anecdotal confirmation: my ADHD feels like it’s at 11 most of the time, but when my home office is a mess, it goes to like 47. Full-on Executive Dysfunction follows. I took some time over Thanksgiving week time off to deep clean and organize the office and it has helped SO MUCH! Thanks for this good word.

If only the executive dysfunction didn't keep me from cleaning my room.

Actually been experiencing a lot of mental fatigue, and my room has been filthy around me and I've been ignoring it. This genuinely helped quite a bit, thanks.

Just love the way he can say it exactly how it is without having to have gone through it. Really special

This is my first time hearing it in words but I have ADHD and I always feel much better/productive when my living space is spotless

Completely changing my room layout and cleaning it has helped my brain so much

This is so true, took years to realize but it’s still easy to forget in the midst of fighting it,

Oh my God not to mention the effect on my depression from being in a cluttered space to a tidy space. I've honestly made a lot of headway on ADD messiness just as an effort to reduce depression.

Being diagnosed as an adult with ADHD and now finding your YouTube channel has made me realize I had to learn some of basic things like the one you mentioned by myself through trial and error. It is so nice watching your videos and learning things about how to manage my ADHD better and sometimes feeling a little good about myself when you mention coping skills I’ve adapted or learned myself prior to knowing my condition! I appreciate you !

I always felt I couldn’t get started on my work if my office or desk was messy. Thanks for explaining why

Also, get rid of more stuff!
I couldn't believe the difference when I went through my house and down sized alot. I literally felt less stressed.
You don't have to be a minnimalist. But less stuff in your house, is less stuff to clean and manage. That makes a huge difference. I have a constant donation box for the thrift store going. Stuff has a way of sneaking into our house without us even knowing it.
Less is more.

Cleaning your room can also include doing your bed which is another massive mental help for me at least.

So true!! I work from home and I really struggle to maintain focus when my apartment is not tidy. The hardest part is I love with someone and I cannot control their actions, not to mention they aren't nearly as neat as I am, so I am constantly stressed about not having the perfect home
