At the beginning I let them know that I was very excited for the opportunities and hoped they didn't mind I brought notes for reference.


I took notes throughout the interview & came prepared with my standard questions to ask at the end plus additional questions that arose.

The way I brought up the notes was when they asked me a question I said "yes, I have an example, let me reference my notes from XYZ company" and then continued on as usual. I never tried to hide them.

I'm a recruiter, and this is one of the dumbest pieces of advice I've seen. It is BLATANTLY obvious when you are reading something off of a screen, and all I have to do is ask for elaboration or more details to your pre-written answer and the candidate instantly crumbles.
