I am a retired special education teacher for over 25 years. My specialty was to teach students dealing with their Autism. I loved how, difficult communication was for them, they always had that special sparkle in their eye that showed how they had a difficult like often, but always showed a keen sense of curiosity and a drive that helped them to find answers that they needed to be able to solve their problems and meet their physical and psychological needs. When I was gifted by my students, they gave me very meaningful gifts such as a smile, a laugh, an excited joyful loud yell. They glowed when you could understand what they were trying to say. They celebrated their accomplishments more than most other students. As a teacher I instructed students in skills and other school curriculum and I hoped they learned every day. I have to say that I learned more from them on a daily bases than I ever thought was possible. I miss working with all of my students. We learned a lot every day!

Oh my goodness that's got to be so frustrating and hard to understand and cope with. Thank God for parents of autistic children who have the patience and love to continue to be there for them. I'm sure it's been a long challenging road and will continue to be. I'm sure you're doing a great job!
