Teen With Autism Sings Like John Mayer

While asking random people to sing at NAMM, I meet Ryan Woodard. What I learn about Ryan is quite interesting. He deals with Autism which has limited his verbal expression. But he has found his expression through music, which had him be more verbal and more confident in himself. In this video, we sing a song together for the people at NAMM and for the parents who raised him.

Reggie, I’ve been trying to find the words to tell you how grateful I am. When this video was taken never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen. We are so thankful to you and to hear this conversation (I couldn’t hear from where I was and I try to give Ryan space to speak for himself) just happen organically and you listened… like really listened… with your body language and how you would light up when he spoke of his music. I’m not sure what it was but in this moment I felt so many emotions… love, pride, thankfulness… all of it. I am so grateful you two had this time together. He will forever remember you… and something tells me you’ll remember him as well. All our love to you, Reggie. 🙏

When he spoke “if you know the song sing along with me” his voice was so clear and strong. Music is clearly his most comfortable communication. I love this.

I like how he completely switched from someone so awkward to having so much stage presence and how he got the audience involved.

i'll never understand how people can struggle to speak so much but when they start singing it's the clearest and most refined voice of a professional. blows my mind. absolutely spectacular.

The sudden switch from the somewhat awkward cadence of his speech to perfect cadence and control as he started to perform was incredible to witness, you can see how much more natural music feels to him than speech, kinda makes sense he picked that up first. I look forward to inevitably seeing him make his mark on the music world

The way he was like "Dad, business card?" was so cute cause he has that relationship with his dad as like his person to push him through all of this and help him.

The young man who lost a friend almost brought me to tears. Such a nice person.

As the father of an autistic child, I'm writing this with tears in my eyes. Ryan's confidence and amazing singing voice have made me more than hopeful for my own son's future. Thank you Reggie and Ryan for blessing us all with this incredible story and performance.

Man. This guy isn't just singing. He is projecting his soul through his voice! You can hear the passion in his singing and when he speaks. What a guy!

His voice is probably the most soothing kind of voice I’ve ever heard in my life.
I will be surprised if I don’t hear of this guy again in the next 5 years, he’ll definitely make it far in his singing career.

His mom must feel so proud. His confidence and his skill. She did a good job.

When he said "Dad, business card" I started laughing through my tears.

That's the kind of voice that makes you feel and believe.

I'm not sure what was more inspiring...his story, his voice, or the obvious love of his parents.

I love this so much. Imagine your child couldn’t speak for 10 years and can now do this! Amazing, brings me to tears.
