A Scot here, from Glasgow. I moved to Aberdeen for university and for a solid year I had no clue what most of the locals were saying so just smiled and nodded a LOT 😂🥲 Slowly picked up some of it… guessed a lot of it too 😂🎉 we don’t even understand each other hahahaha

I am once again reminded of one of my grandpa's stories from doing his medical residency in Glasgow, in which he had to translate from English to English for another doctor and his patient. The doctor was a Glaswegian local (Glasgow's accent is notoriously thick), and the patient was a tourist from Texas, with the heaviest Texan drawl you've ever heard. Both were speaking English, but neither could understand each other. As the only other American in the hospital, my grandpa was the only one who could understand both parties.

I (german) was once hiking through Scotland, when i met two guys asking me for the way in a super German accent, so i said we could speak German. They were from somewhere in Bavaria and i couldn't understand a word they were saying! We had to go back to English...

I'm Scottish and for anyone curious it's kinda gibberish dialogue between 2 people for parody, he says:
"This is the thing, it's only - it's alright when"
"is that us?"
"no going *random mumble""
"is that us?" (usually meaning: "is that us ready to go?"/"Is that for us?")

Yes yes!!! Been in Edinburgh three weeks ago and oh boy, I just nodded at everything like I understood people (I didn’t tho), I relied on my husband, he’s Australian so a native English speaker, little did I know he was doing just the same thing as me😂 I love Scotland 🙌🏼
