What makes the Portuguese people unique? Join us as we uncover Portugal’s fascinating genetic history, revealing a complex tapestry of ancient migrations and cultural influences that have shaped the nation we know today. From the earliest hunter-gatherers in the Iberian Peninsula to Neolithic farmers, Celtic tribes, and the Romans, each wave of migration added new layers to Portugal’s DNA.

In this video, we’ll explore how Germanic Visigoths, Moors, and Sephardic Jewish communities left their marks, visible not only in Portuguese surnames but also in the diverse genetic makeup of the population. Discover how ancient settlements, like Gruta do Caldeirão, reveal connections to Portugal’s distant past, and learn how the Age of Exploration brought even more global diversity into Portugal’s genetic pool.

Join us for a deep dive into the story of Portugal's genetic legacy, uncovering how ancient migrations, historical events, and even the Portuguese colonial period contributed to the rich cultural and genetic mosaic we see today.

Some Jewish men, having escaped the inquisition, got to Portugal and became sailors, Some of those made it down as far as NZ , and in particular Mangonui , in the Far North, They jumped ship, escaping into local areas and married Maori girls, , SO Panterras became Panthers, and Ferreras became Frears, Jacinto became Jacentho, deSilva, became Silva, Yetz became Yates, it's all very fascinating, ❤

I'm Portuguese and 75 per cent of my DNA is Celtic! And about 75 per cent of the Celts in the British Isles came from what is now called Portugal!

I'm from Brazil and my Dna test showed that I'm 86.1% IBERIAN, 8.8% East European and 5.1% Mesoamerican. Funny how DNA works, I'm more Portuguese than a lot of Portuguese born people 😄.
