RIP HDD
you worked hard for us gamers back in the early 2000s, it's time for sleep.

This shows that even a simple SATA SSD is an incredible upgrade for the vast majority of people, HDD is really a hard choice today, the difference is brutal not even on loading but especially in random access causing stutterings.

I'm surprised by the little difference in loading times between SSD et M2. M2 is at least twice faster than SSD but the loading times are just a bit faster !

"Bro get an nvme gen 4 it'll load so quick" meanwhile sata ssds being only a few seconds behind: 👁👄👁

Rdr2 is so optimized that it only has a 20s average difference compared to an SSD.

3:18 So I guess that's great optimization on Santa Monica Studios' part, won't you agree?

I was stunned when I went nvme. I mean... all my drives are seagate 7200Rpm barracuddas... BUT... and I hate to admit it.... One Sililicon Power 2TB Nvme for - very, very little money.... My boot time is 6 seconds, loaded, AV, VPN, done. I never used to care - at all. But its one of those - once your used it... no going back! Even if you can only afford a 256 etc... its worth it. So much faster... Mine is a B450 - so old.... And even it is quick now.

Thanks dude just the video I was looking for. Straight to the point. I wonder if emulators can take advantage of NVME? Especially those roms that come off CD's. Would they load faster or nah? I got a Samsung 980 2 TB nvme with heatsink over a year or two ago and everything is still going super quick and I only put the important stuff on the drive besides games.

HDD is not made to play with, for people that dont know, just stock games inside it and movies and tv show, if you want play games you should always use sata ssd or m.2, i recommand using ssd sata for single players games, and m.2 for heavy demending multiplayer games, cause multiplayer games you need to be more quicker in loading.

God of war didnt care

But that being the exception, you would think hard drives would be $5 for 2tb at this point. Those dinosaurs are just too slow

But which HD, SSD and Nvme m.2 were you using, which model and brand in each test? are equivalent

What's important is the Random R/W aka IOPS speed. You tested it with NV1, which is a low-grade nvme which doesn't help and a lot of cheap PCIE 4 nvme are a huge lie as they can't reach the PCIE 4 speed in the first place

Wow ssd's are almost a must these days.

Whenever i installed games on ssd i never encounter any stutter such as i installed cyberpunk after phantom liberty update on i7 4770 16gb & rx 470 8gb although fps is around 40 to 50 the game never ever stutter for a single second on my 870 evo.

is it just me or ssd really are the standard storage now gaming

with GPU being bigger i think it worth invest in motherboard with more than 2 M.2 compatible my RTX 4070 just ate all the space for 3 of my SATA slot for SSD 💀
you can fix it by using PCIe x16 extension but it cost the same as a M.2 1TB price at my country 💀

hdds are still way more reliable and stores the data physically, for important data its better than ssds.

Hmmm what are some of those developers doing wrong that they can't optimize the loading times of hdd? Some of those games had no issues while others had a lot of problems mainly Sons of the Forest. Very strange results.

M.2 and SSD are respectfully fast the M. 2 is the fastest because clearly it's a chip and not a drive. SSD does not rely on a disc which makes it faster and less chance of becoming faulty. But HDD, yeah it can go kill itself.
