How to Get the Most out of Your Flight. Maybe you love to travel by plane, or maybe just the idea makes you clench your teeth in terror, but we bet you didn’t know all of this. It’s time to ask the experts who fly all the time: flight attendants to reveal their secrets and tips on how to make your flight more comfortable and safe.
Many of us consider ourselves experts at navigating departures, flights, and takeoffs almost as naturally as we get out of bed in the morning or take a walk around the block. But however experienced you are, learning some of these insights about airplanes can make your flights more pleasant. It might also make the experience better for the pilot and crew of flight attendants who have to do this all day, every day.

SUMMARY
-Before 1930, the crews of airplanes were 100% male, including the pilot, ground crew, and all of the flight attendants. Over a hundred years, the gender roles reversed, and many now see this as a primarily female profession.
-In reality, a flight attendant’s job is to assist the captain by managing the cabin during a flight.
-Airline crews are typically paid by the hour, but only the hours spent in actual flight are paid. A flight doesn’t actually start until the door is closed.
-Experienced flight attendants recommend avoiding falling asleep on take-off, descent, and landing. Not only will you not be attentive during these dangerous parts of the flight, but it can impinge on your comfort.
-Attendants encourage passengers to sleep on night flights, deliberately delaying food service to let people fall asleep.
-Some flight attendants use a trick to get more people to choose the fish: they say that the fish is a “special” from the “chef,” reserved exclusively for this flight.
-Some airlines supply their flight attendants with tasers to deal with passengers who don’t comply. Safety is very important on planes, and they’ve got to be able to control a situation.
-Especially if you’re a nervous flier, you’ll be pleased to know that the back seats tend to be far safer, statistically speaking.
-Flight attendants are trained in first aid and CPR. They can treat small wounds, assess symptoms of common traveler illnesses, and even deliver babies in-flight.
-Never take your shoes off on a plane. Lots of passengers use fold-down tables for all sorts of things: as writing surfaces, pillows (with drool-catching action!), or places to change a baby. Use antibacterial disinfectant, and clean the tray for your own safety. Flight attendants have very little free time during a flight. If you’re thirsty, rather than pressing the call button, consider going up to them to ask for a glass of water.

As a Flight Attendant of 24 years, I really enjoyed this video. It is on point. The biggest being "kindness can go a long way." If you're a passenger, always remember that and apply it when you're interacting with the Flight Attendant. I have given tons of things away for free to friendly and funny passengers.

I remember when I took my first commercial flight, it was on Southwest from San Jose to Fontana CA, I was super excited and after we had reached our cruising speed and altitude, the flight attendants let me (along with them) hand out drinks and snacks to everyone on the plane! Super fun! :)

Once I took a ten months crying baby from her mother, and surprisingly the baby stopped crying. I took her further at the door area and waited. It was a long overnight flight, and was there for about 30 minutes. After a few minutes, the lights were put off and there was total darkness. I forget from where I picked up the baby, nor I could recognize the mother. After some time, I got tired holding the baby and wanted to return.. There were 3, 4 ladies in the line and all were in deep sleep. Moreover, I did not notice from whom I picked up the baby..
Finally, I made the baby cry, so that the mother could get up.. and that worked..

Some corrections/clarifications...
The and other Flight Attendant requests are actually FAA laws that must be adhered to. When the crew "asks" you to do something it's because it is a direction to you to obey the law. Flight Attendants are required to ensure all passengers are in compliance - if they don't they can be personally fined by the government. They aren't picking on you - they're just doing their job. Also, you may be told to do something that doesn't seem to make sense. Often those requests have to do with security issues. Since 9/11 Flight Attendants have become first responders to security issues. We've had to learn and take on an enormous amount of security procedures and are sworn to share this information on a need-to-know basis only. (Ie we cannot tell you why we are making the request. Hope this helps! Fly Safe!

I was constantly in the air for 35 years. I haven't been on a plane since I retired 10 years ago. Ahhh so much better.

Number 9 situation just happened to me recently. It was my first time flying by myself going interstate to visit my neice. I got the cold and flu the night before and could not recovery as fast trying everything. One flight attendant noticed upon boarding - later on that flight during down time. He gave me a peppermint tea as complimentary, extra tissues and a blanket to keep warm. I should have got his name cause I wanted to thank him of how comfortable I felt throughout that flight cause of him. I'm grateful of that experience I had on that flight 💕

I always admired them. Apart from all the responsability they cary on their shoulders during a flight. They have to deal with much more than just food and drinks. And justremember how tired we sometimes end up after a long flight just sitting, being served and sleeping...just imagine working standing and running around, and sometimes dealing with complete idiots.

#3: I don't know about other places, but in Brazil flight attendants are paid even if they are not flying. They get an additional for the hour flying, but they are paid even if the flight is canceled, after all they showed up to work, it's not their fault if the flight is canceled and they shouldn't be impaired by that.

What airline does this guy fly for? I’ve been a flight attendant for 28 years and half of this information is wrong! Flight attendants have been issued tasers? I wish!

On most recent trip, on the long haul flight, we met this hostess and she was really nice and by the time the flight was over, she knew me very well. So on the flight back a few weeks later, she was on our flight again. And during the period of time were I slept, she slipped 3 chocolate bars by my seat. And I just smiled. She gave me a few more for the road after the flight. It does pay to be nice to them.

I always loved flying since I was 3. Idk why but I really love the feeling of being in a plane, and the food is delicious.

And now we have Southwest to make us all keep sitting in our seats for an extra 10 minutes after we get to the gate so that a couple flying to Vegas to get married can stroll down the aisle (all the way from the back) stopping to take selfies with each row. Because, you know, their selfies are MUCH more important than whatever the other 140 people wanted to be doing with their time.

Yeah they're great people especially dealing with people that stress out about plane crashing💥 and all.
