Step-by-step guide to getting your Blender scenes into After Effects.

After Effects is a really powerful compositing tool which does loads of cool things, but it's not a 3D package. Since Adobe CC was introduced Cinema4D Lite has been bundled with it, but this is hugely limited. Blender is free, open-source 3D software which has lots of potential, but it has a steep learning curve. I've created a series of videos to cover the basics of using it from the perspective of an After Effects artist.

In this video, I'm going to show you how to use an Add-On in Blender which will output camera, lights and object data for After Effects. I'll then show you how to import this into After Effects.

Bartek Skorupa's python code:

If anyone knows where the original is linked to, I'll update that here too, but in the meantime:

Oh my god this will save me a lot of time, I always import images on Blender and export it for After Effects when I could just get the camera straight from Blender

I’m encountering an issue with exporting camera and empty animation data from Blender to After Effects. The camera exports as a one-node camera, and I can’t find any settings to export it as a two-node camera. When I use the exported camera and empty as track data for other 3D-aware plugins in After Effects, the results are incorrect. If I change the exported camera from one-node to two-node, all the empties go haywire. How can I resolve this problem?

Is it because I use a camera rig in Blender to animate?

encountered a bug where it gets stuck/freezes on After Effects import - turns out it's just a UI bug, the cancel and OK button don't work, but just type the name of your composition and push Enter on your keyboard. Hope that helped somebody

There's a few people commenting that that isn't working in Blender 3. I've just installed 3.1.2 and while I had to re-install the script file - it continues to work for me
