A friend of mine, Phil Parkin, was invited to play The Masters in 1984 as British Amateur Champion and apparently he was knocking it over a 30ft high fence at the end of the 300yd driving a persimmon wood. I caddied for him at The British open once and his drive at the 18th was so long it nearly went in the lake between the fairway and green. he only needed a PW for his 2nd shot. He was a huge hitter in his day.

I have that golf ball!!!! Was in the gates at Riv early on Friday….the Marshalls were kind enough to retrieve a ball sitting in the middle of the 11th fairway…a brand new Taylormade TP5X practice ball. We headed to the range to try and find Rory, but he was already wrapped up practicing. 😢 would LOVE to have his signature on it!

I used to do the same thing and on two of the courses, that meant bombing players waiting to tee off on one of the holes on the course, who were not too happy, but didn''t know who just peppered their tee box. But I also never broke 80. So, a lot of good that did.

This Riviera? Back when it was fun for spectators, in 2000 I watched Daily warm up. All his drives were going over so he aimed at some eucalyptus that were overhanging the fence and hit into them
That tournament now doesn't let fans near the action anymore. $110 grounds fee.
