Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 Review

A review of Samsung's latest media player with a 5", 800 x 480 display and Android OS 2.3.5 Gingerbread. The Player sells for $269 and it has 8 gigs of storage and a microSD card slot. Think of it as a big screen Galaxy S minus the cell phone. It has WiFi, Bluetooth, a GPS and dual cameras and can make VoIP calls but not cellular calls. It's also available in a 4" model.

I just bought one a Best Buy for 229. The 4 inch is out now also but I prefer the 5 inch screen. I damaged my Nexsus S 4g and have a refurbished model that was recently updated to ICS. My Nexus now runs hot and my battery never last a full day like on my previous model. The Galaxy player allows me use all day. I've watch music videos, movies, downloaded games, browsed the net, etc. I'm considering lowering my mobile plan...to me it's more like a mini tablet than media player and I love it.

To enjoy the Surround sound from this WiFi 5.0 Galaxy S (YP-G70) player, I found the need and use of an extended cable linked to the 3, 5mm jack port is inevitable albeit to a Samsung 30Watt Booster speaker system like I use or simply to its default headset provided. This is also my 1st ever purchase of a mobile Mp3/4 unit since this system overtook the CD diskman back in the late 80s and I'm enjoying every moment of this as a Senior turning 60 next year. :))

@denisrenelara Yes, you can use an app like CoPilot and store the maps on the device rather than relying on a data connection.

@babyjokes250 You can use the GPS without WiFi (but will need to pre-load maps or use a 3G/4G hotspot to download maps on the go.
