Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0

This is a first look at the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0. It's a portable Android device with a 5 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display and built-in GPS.

The Galaxy Player 5.0 is sort of like an Android phone that doesn't make phone calls... or a larger, Android-powered iPod touch.

My iPod Touch - only a year after I got it, pretty much right when the warranty ended - shit the bed. It only works when plugged in now, and I took GREAT care of it. I'm waiting for a Galaxy Player with a 720p or 1080p camera and a Super AMOLED screen.

@omokhowa GPS works without WiFi -- but you need an internet connection if you want to use Google Maps to load maps or view direction since there's no 3G on the Galaxy Player.

Alternately you might be able to purchase an offline GPS app that stores maps on your device and calculates directions for you -- but I haven't really tested any on this device.

@LOVEIsDasani Yes, it supports flash, it's way better than the ipod touch, the 5 inch version even has a battery twice as large as the 4 inch version.

@BradLinder Clock speed, yes, actually, since the A4 is underclocked to 800 MHz and the Galaxy Player has a 1 GHz processor, as well as double the RAM.

Although the "usual" price for the Samsung is $230, unless you get it from Ebay. The iPod may be the same price, lower, or higher, but it depends on the size (GB).

Nice Review Brad! I just buy the Item today. I was looking for an alternative of the IPod Touch for a long time but with the ability to have android and SD card. I hope its perform properly.

@SidCalibur just buy a usb adapter, plug micro sd card into the adaptor, plug the adaptor into the usb port of your computer, they cost about 5 quid

Yes, I posted where ever someone may be looking to find info on a galaxy player. Before I bought mine I watched and read as many videos as I could to make an informed decision. If I knew there was a problem with the card slot I would have had second thoughts. As great as I thought the player was, I'm terribly disappointed with this defect. It ruined my device and I have no recourse. They won't take any responsibility so as a consumer I feel I should make this aware to others.

sorry forgot to mention Im using the ipod touch, do not buy get a samsung they have never failed me. Really good quality, battery life, displays and features

@josecitoperecito You just need an app that has maps as well as calculates directions for you. no data plan, as there is no cellular hardware built in anyways.

Yeah that's what i was comparing to the ipod touch, i think they were selling the 5.0 for $200, and the ipod for $180.

i cant tell u exactly where it is but its in dekatur (the whole story is its was on sale for $189 i had a best buy gift card that took off $90 bucks plus shiping and handling so all toghether i payed about $108) hope this helps
