Protons (Yellow) go from the high concentration side (below) to the side with lower concentration. They do that by binding to the transmembrane portion of the ATP-Synthase. However, the place where the Protons enter and where they leave are in different locations. Therefore, the transmembrane portion of the ATP-Synthase has to rotate to bring the protons from one side to the other. The rotating motion of parts of the protein causes the non-rotating subunits to deform in specific places. This deformation catalyzes the reaction of ADP (green) + inorganic phosphate to ATP (red).

just to let everyone know, the size of the molecules are greatly exaggerated here vs the water. it makes it seem like the phsophlipids and proteins are huge structures in water, whereas in reality, they are only about 20 atoms per head of the phospholipid, the water molecules should also be visible. but I guess it's done this way to facilitate visualization

Praise the Lord, what brilliance of the Creator. You need so much ATP and so many proteins to even make this incredible motor which necessary for transcription, translation and making proteins. The cell is filled with so chicken and egg situations it screams design. Breathe, and this motor will do its work. Look with your eyes and this motor works. The design of this motor is awe inspiring - only a mind could design it - praise the Lord Jesus. Remember you need ATP even to make proteins, or DNA, or ribosomes (the protein making factories) which are made out of proteins which are made by the factories themselves. And we need proteins just to fold the proteins. We could go on and on. We need proteins to handle the DNA, which is needed to make the proteins. We have a language in DNA, a real code, and the 4D proteins (in time). Dr. Robert Carter on his channel Biblical Genetics goes through the many and complicated and ATP requiring necessary to build the ATP Synthase which makes ATP. Its the Spaghettifcation of complexity.
