Drying of instruments prior to autoclave ensures good functioning, especially the bipolar and endoshearer.

Surgical instruments are the surgeons greatest friends and maintaining them well ensures their longevity and reliability of function in a subsequent event .
Every surgeon should know how to dismantle and reassemble his/ her instruments .
While cleaning them one often discovers breaches in insulation and small parts failures which can be preemptively repaired.

A hard bristle tooth brush is very useful in prying out tissue crust and pieces from the jaw of these fine instruments .

Two points regarding this.

1. An ultrasonic cleaner helps greatly in removing tissue debris.
2. A simple hair drier is better than plain compressed air to dry the instruments
