I replace a G3 Flex camera with a G5 Pro and compare it to the G4 Pro at the same time. Is it better? 🤔

Thanks for showing me about the optical zoom, I have a G4 Pro and forgot I even had it. You always seem to bring something good to the table and love your video comparisons.

Thanks for showing the optical-zoom in action. I have some Unifi equipment, but none of the cameras and I wondered how the optical zoom worked.

Nice comparison. My latest cam is the G5 Bullet which replaced a G3 Flex and that also improved the details a lot. I am however a bit "spoiled" with 5 G4 Pros so I will probably look at a G5 Pro too as a replacement for some of my older G3´s. However I am really impressed by the picture quality of their G5 line, got both G5 Dome, G5 Flex and now the G5 Bullet. That also goes for the G4 Instant of which I have 3 now. 2 of these are actually mounted as outside cams and working perfectly in the "rough" danish weather and after one of the latest updates to Protect, even the playback now runs smooth with these new Instant cams despite being Wifi connected.

Looks so good imagine once you put the enhancer on it can see even further and crisper 600 lm and it expands it to 131 feet night vision

Hi Lars, Can you check and let me know that G5 pro able to capture plate numbers similar to AI bullet. Thanks Mate

Lars, can you run a camera live only with no recording component? I have a UDM (not a UDM Pro) and am considering installing a camera so the relatives can see what's happening on the farm?

I think you can look at the network speed that each is using. I am guessing that the G4 never uses more bandwidth than the G5. Curious if there is a difference .

Nice video to watch over lunch. 🙃
One difference between the G4 pro and G5 pro (or rather between all G4 cameras and G5 cameras) that I didn't see mentioned is that the G5 line up apparently doesn't support stand alone mode. That is to say, you cannot stream the video feed from a G5 camera directly to a 3rd party NVR (e.g. Synology Surveillance Station), something that was possible with previous camera generations. For the G5 cameras, you are locked in to using Unifi Protect. It is possible to re-stream the feed from Protect to a 3rd party NVR, however some users have reported issues with the audio feed not being relayed correctly etc. So perhaps this is another reason why the G5 cameras are a little bit cheaper that the G4 cameras.

I am setting up a system for a client, how do I give them access to the camera system without actually using my ui account?

Hey, thanks for the info. Is that 30fps for 4k recording on the G5 compared cu 50fps for 4k recording on G4?

Shortly after I purchased my G4 pro an automatic firmware update clearly reduced the cameras night time clarity. I was able to save pictures of the image before and after the update. The difference IMO is the improvement now demonstrated with the G5 pro. It looks like software not hardware based improvement. Are the sensors even different? This is the one and only gripe I have with my UI system. Did UI deliberately reduce the capability of the G4 pro via their updates so they could offer an improvement with the G5 pro? Have any tech guys installed the g5 pro firmware into the g4 pro and noticed an improvement?

Great content Lars. I recently installed an AI Pro out front as G5 Pro was out of stock in the UK and I’m pleasantly surprised with the sensor’s low light abilities, I have some external lights and I’m actually disabling the night vision using Home Assistant when the external lights are activated because the image is clearer this way than with the IR on.. if that makes sense. IR is impressive too. The AI part had a long way to go though! Number plate recognition is… meh. Mostly inaccurate.

And I think it is odd they’re still selling the G4 Pro, Ubiquiti are amazing at marketing in some respects and rubbish in others. Why don’t they just tell us straight the image quality is better than the G4 Pro, which is what they have mentioned in the discord channel, that G5 across the board offers better image quality over G4, despite incredibly similar specs. And 100Mb port just a cost saving thing I expect, a smart move tbh.

Any idea how it compares to the G5 Bullet (non-pro)? Is it that much better to warrant the price?

You could use the G3 camera for your porch and point the G5 more out into the landscape. The G5 Pro IR enhancer is particularly good with no objects in the near foreground. Even better than the enhancer would be an IR Illuminator attached to the porch fascia near your wireless ethernet device. I'm sure you want to cover the porch/office door, but it's a bit of a waste with 4K. Love seeing your landscape. FWI the spot light function on the enhancer actually degrades picture quality as the camera switches to color.

depends on the bit rate of that 4k if you can send it 100mb ethernet. my lg tv chokes on thicc blu ray rips at high bit rate but i assume unifi isnt as high in the bit rate.

Night vision on your G5 Pro is hindered by the IR reflection off of the bushes unfortunately. You would probably get more distance if they weren't there.
