Japanese person here, yes it happens a lot, not only idols from music but also other types of famous people.
And many of those people and their agencies make it worse by using ''she/he is single'' as a commercial value for parasocial fans who often are made fun of by general people.
Not defending anyone tho, the fans are at fault for being dumb, the companies are at fault for creating a weird/unethical bussiness model to feed on them and the idols themselves are at fault too because they know how that kind of pretending something you're not explodes in your face at the smallest mistake and they still do it.
Every country has many flaws and yes, this is embarrasing one.

Edit to add: Also this flaw will keep existing simply because the industry as a whole makes much more money than what we ''value'' the life of one idol, that's also why they die for it.
