My mother in law won the lottery in 1987. Not that amount, but a very nice 1.5 million. They were a middle class, hard working family & lived on the third floor of a three decker their entire marriage (35 yrs). They hired a lawyer, she retired from her job of housekeeping at the hospital, they moved out of the three decker, bought a house in the same neighborhood they already lived in, and received yearly payments for twenty years. Every September, they would have a big macaroni dinner, invite their three sons, wives & grandchildren…and pass out a cut of their check to each of us.
They lived comfortably for the rest of their lives.
No tragic ending, just modest, humble, good people that knew how to budget.

it should be illegal in all 50 states for the lottery to make the winners name public.

They need to stop forcing people to take pics and releasing it. Winners should be 100% faceless if requested. If they want it published thats on them.

The Outrage shouldn’t be about the story of Jack but that the government takes 50% of the winnings. That’s the Crime!

I don't see how somebody that was already worth $17 million has such a hard life with even more money. He wasn't poor to begin with.

He gave that kind of money to a teenager, what could possibly go wrong? 😥

So the story is that Jack was a bit of an idiot. Driving a Lamborghini in a poor neighborhood and throwing money around?!

I've also heard that winning the lottery can cause problems for couples because when you suddenly are able to do what you want in life, it can highlight differences in what each person wants to do in life.

Some issues i find with the U.S lotto is, depending on what state you're in, you wont have the option of privacy in announcing the winnings. Its terrible. Across every state lotto winners should 100% have the right to claim their winnings privately & not have their name and face disclosed.

The true crime here is if you win 314 million dollars, after taxes, you only receive 170 million while people in other countries pay no taxes on lottery winnings.

It was over for him after that statement he made about being richer than God. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Never go on social media and tell anyone what you have or have won.

Stay anonymous. Collect the money. Move overseas. Congrats on winning.

What scares me is that you are required to identify yourself when you hit the lottery. That puts you at risk immediately. It makes no sense.

I got nearly $50, 000 one time. I couldn't believe how many "friends" I had all the sudden. It was easy to believe that those friends disappeared as soon as the money ran out. Never again. If I ever come across a large amount of money, I'll be damned if anyone finds out about it.

Never give away money to family and friends. Buy them something they want or need, but never give them your money away.
