I’m surprised they didn’t take it down in 2014, after Crimea.

I remember it from when I visited Kiev, sad to see it go. Russia can't even complain about it, since they say Ukraine never existed in the first place.

This statue represented a friendship that did once exist between Russia and Ukraine. That may be why it was not taken down in 1989. It is another sad sign of what Putin has done.

I still defend that monuments like this should be taken to museums, not destroyed, they are historical artifacts.

But yeah, Ukrainians are pissed and have a valid reason to remove them.

It's peculiar how the subtitle maker decided not to translate 'glory to the nation' and 'Ukraine above all' slogans that the people are shouting

I am waiting for Ukraine to give up almost half of its territory to Poland as part of "decommunization", because this is also a Soviet legacy.

That's what happened when we found out how lucky and fortunate life has become so we can concentrate on more 'finer' things in life.🥺

The Ukrainians took it down before it was destroyed in the shelling. They need the metal to make ammunition.

I understand the hatred that Ukrainians have for Russians, but hatred towards the Soviet Union makes no sense. The Ukrainians had rulers within the Kremlin, Konstantin Chernenko and Leonid Brezhnev, Mikail Gorbachev was also of Ukrainian descent.
But the person who loved Ukraine the most was Nikita Khrushchev, who was raised in eastern Ukraine.
Therefore, this against the Soviet Union does not have much place when the aggressor is not the USSR but an imperialist Russia

USSR gave statue to Ukrainian SSR would have been more correct...as they were part of same country
