I'm 17 and you inspired me to start gardening last year, this is my second year and my garden is doing amazing! I attribute some of that success to your knowledge and, by the way my corn is doing fantastic! I grow in mn

This year I’m planning on growing a cornfield in my residential So Cal backyard so I can get lost then find myself. What a terrific time to be gardening during our Coronavirus lockdown era.

I was really proud of myself. We live on the windy/rainy Oregon Coast. I grew it in containers on a North facing porch. I planted 6 plants from seed 2 survived and gave two ears each. I'm going to do better this year I have plans 😁

Planted mine when night temps dropped to 40. Did not presoak but got a lot of rain. 90% germination. After two weeks 4 inches high. The soil was very nutrient rich so maybe that’s why I got away with colder temperatures.

I live in Illinois. And we got hit with a really bad growing season. The farmers gave up. All the farms are just mud. If i had know what would happen, i would've tried to grow this year. But i figured to get more research in before doing so. Thanks to you and the rest of the garden community, im sure to feel confident for next year.

Started playing farm sim and have been on a journey trying to learn about the real life ways things are grown. Thanks for the knowledge 😁

I feel silly watching a video on growing corn when I came from a long line of corn farmers...but this was very helpful and came just in time for me. Thank you!

Thanks for the video Luke. Presprouted mine on wet kitchen towel, and planted them up, so managed to get a 100% germination rate. I didn't appreciate they could be planted so closely together. I interspersed mine between squash plants to try and make the most of the space.

Never had an issue with pollination. Wait for anther tops to dry ready to pollinate, cut with garden shears a handful, while competing with the honey bees. Grab silk and wipe with anthers. Manual pollination 100% yield. Tomatoes electric toothbrush on small flower stems. More tomatoes than you can handle. Same methods with most veggies. Manual method.

I would plant beans with the corn, just like the natives did. I do this and it works well, along with squash in the corn patch (3 sisters planting) to help shade the ground. The squash plants also keep raccoons and other animals out, as the stems are full of little spiny things that scratch quite well (my arms showed me that last year!). Beans are a nitrogen fixer, thereby fertilizing the corn all season long and not depleting your soil or compost.

For a good, early-maturing heirloom sweet corn, try Simonet. It was developed in Edmonton several decades ago, and when planted in late May (in Canada, zones 2 and 3) it can mature early to mid August. I find it much better than the hybrid Peaches and Cream, plus you can save seed and successfully plant it year after year (if you plant enough, corn inbreeds quickly, so it's recommended to plant and collect from a minimum of 200 plants, they say 300 is much better).

Great video I grew corn last year and made so many mistakes put 15 seed in a 5 gallon bucket and it grew small corns. So I'm trying again this year and it's looking good and it's has half seafood compost and soil and it's in full sun all day. Thanks

I just liked and subscribed. I garden in Florida and I'm always thankful that you share info on how to work within a lot of different zones and soil types. I wasn't planning on growing corn this year, but now, thanks to you, I'm more knowledgeable and feel confident enough to try.

Thanks for the excellent idea of soaking them first — makes good sense. Much appreciated…

I always sprout my corn seed in damp paper towels in a plastic bag and plant them when the roots are about 1cm, corn pokes up out of the ground 3-4 days later and its on its way for me its the only way to plant without critters eating it up...
