"...in an age without drugs or medical equipment..."
Are these people stupid!? Of course they had drugs and medical equipment! They didn't look like ours, but they had them! They had sedatives and painkillers, and the honey mentioned was an antimicrobial! And they had a vast array of medical tools!

This documentary was originally aired all the way back in 2000! I wonder what was discovered and what is now better understood about ancient egypt.

There are separate species of 'blue lotus'. the one they keep showing is actually a tropical water lily, not what is referred to as a lotus today, and so the Egyptian variety was also. there is no telling if it still exists. the ancient Egyptians could have possessed a variety with higher alkaloids then bred them to be more intense, creating their own more intense variety. This was probably carefully looked after in cultivated pools. In an arid country, over two thousand years, without constant care it could easily have died out and been lost.

I find it funny that in many documentary films about Egypt they will refer to the Sahara as the biggest desert in the world, the truth is that Antarctica is the largest desert, but rather than heat and sand there is cold and ice

Humans have been finding ways to use plants to alter their consciousness as long as there have been humans.

I love the idea that the everyday people were taken care of. When you think about it, it doesn’t make sense they were slaves. Sure they could have but we’re taking about over many many years. If they didn’t take care of the work force to a certain degree eventually they would have been dying off. Being a prisoner doesn’t make sense to me and in my opinion it makes ancient Egypt all the more beautiful

it seems an overwhelming amount of "private individuals" ended up giving ancient Egyptian remains to the British Museum... an argument I've heard as to why the British Museum and not a museum in Egypt is the preservation and research of these remains... yet "private individuals" seem to have managed just fine at preserving until surrendering these remains to the British Museum amongst all others

The fact that this aired in 2000 and Hawas was taken seriously just 20+ years ago is mind blowing.

A documentary about Egypt without professor Fletcher as the ONLY narrator, is not as interesting to be honest 😌

Thank You for posting this. That said: In the second episode about the DNA of the family members of the 18th Dynasty —> starting at around the 1 hour 05 minute mark and on… there’s A Lot of breaking up in the audio and video that made it almost unbearable for me to watch. Sorry to complain, I am very glad that you posted it so I can watch it.
