I think my love of the History of Egypt, came from when I was a child and my parents took me to see Cleopatra’s Needle in London. I remember being fascinated with this monument and it’s history and the story of Cleopatra and the Roman influence. From there my interest blossomed and I continued my interest in Egypt today. I probably own more books on Egypt than I do of British history another obsession of mine. I wish I had Professor Fletcher as a teacher when I was young, her passion for history and Egypt is addictive.

This series of foreign invasions started with the Hyksos.
Hyksos: 1675 BCE
Syrians: 740 BCE
Persians: 525 BCE
Greeks: 320 BCE
Romans: 40 BCE
Arabs: 640 AD
Turks: 1517 CE
This is why the population of Egypt (originally known by its inhabitants as Kemet) looks the way it does now.

Fun Fact: Alexander The Great was not only considered one of the best military minds of all time, but he also spoke English with an Irish accent!

Great video. Too bad about all the commercial interruptions but everyone is trying to make some dash, I suppose. I love her passion.

24:44 This reminds me of a documentary about the world's oldest mummys in Peru that Professor Fletcher appeared in.

She is a great gift. People who know unimaginable lots and can make that available to ordinary souls like ourselves are a precious gift. They help us to connect with the great chain of the past, and our shared humanity across time and culture.

The Assyrian helmet was like the German Pickelhaube helmet the point on the helmet was there to deflect sword blows especially those from soldiers on horseback.
