One thing to keep in mind about this is that you can accidentally drain your tank onto the floor this way, especially if you have ADD tendencies like I do. So, don't put the upper end in your aquarium very deep. Only put it about an inch or two under the surface. That way if you do forget and go to bed, it won't drain your whole tank while you sleep. Yes, you can drain your tank a drop at a time. :) Another is to just set an alarm to check it every 10-20 mins. I do both.
