If You're Sore Should You Still Workout? Overtraining & Rest Days

There are memes, youtubers, and fitness articles all giving opposing advice -- so, how can you tell if you're overtraining, or not training hard enough, or if it's all just a myth? Here's the simple answer: you should work out when you're sore, yes. You should also listen to your body and give it what it needs: rest, water, nutrients, etc. And finally, the number one rule: avoid injury! If you feel like a certain workout will send you "on a one-way ticket to snap city" (as all the cool kids say), then do something different! Use that time to stretch, or just take a break!

After pulling my hamstring muscle, and almost injuring my hands which felt like they were on fire when they hit the track to break my fall, injury prevention became foremost.

I work out hard every other day. On the in between days I do yoga, or easy walking. I try to take at least one day off per week. I am in cardiac rehabilitation and don't go hard every day, as per the advice of my Exercise Specialist. I still do martial arts workouts, but not as intense as I once did. The important thing is don't give up, keep training and consistency is the key. Not point in killing yourself with puke bucket workouts if you are just going to get discouraged, sick or do yourself damage.

once you have hit a muscle completely, it takes usually 3 days for the soreness to subside, and extra one or two days for the suercompensation process to be completed, in case of natties, most natties, its very true, so proggressive overload is the way to go because thats a good routine that you just have to follow and can get results, and if you are training to failure or something, take 4 days off before training that musle again, and get lots of healthy kcals a day.

I workout even after a hard day at my job. I work at construction (40 hour weeks) so im tired af when i start working out. And i gotta say that all this physical activity has given me more muscle than taking rests too often. As long as im eating over 3000 calories i keep gaining lean muscle. So i think u cant overdo it. Only if ur at a point where ur so sore u feel like ur muscles will rip, then u take some days off.

If you ever run out of ideas or anything.. You could do Shane's cooking show where you show what you think is good to eat when dieting for a fight or just what's good to eat in general as a fighter/martial artist. I'd be curious

I do boxing and I'm a boy (ignore the name it's my mums) and I have video tendonitis which is pain in the biceps. Some forums say exercise other parts of your body but since it's boxing it's 100% going to involve the arms. There is 1 day between every session

Also make sure to stretch your legs two minutes and your shoulders two minutes before working out
