What does the future hold for the border between the North and South of Ireland?

‘World This Week’ reports from the border between Northern and Southern Ireland and contemplates what will happen in the event of a Common Market. How long will the border last?

As a new customs post is under construction, reporter John O’Donoghue points out that the old stumbling blocks to the removal of the border continue for both sides of the political and sectarian divide.

According to the Ulster Unionists;
"The South won’t recognise two traditions in Ireland... There’s no room for us in a Gaelic Ireland."

Nationalists say that there is continued discrimination in housing and employment in Northern Ireland.

This episode of ‘World This Week’ was broadcast on 1 April 1962. The reporter is John O’Donoghue.

Been following you for a while now, lad. I really love your work! You might also find interesting that in this clip, that's my actual grandad! I don't know what date this came from, but I know we started broadcasting on 31/Dec/61. Cheers again, peace out 💕

Jaysus, I'd say John O'Donoghue was relegated to the newsdesk after this performance. That was a painfully rendered report.
