Trump's Border Wall Has Left a Complicated Legacy

On his first day in office, President Biden halted construction on the US-Mexico border wall- a project launched under the Trump administration, and one that remains one of the most expensive and controversial border projects in US history. Today, it remains incomplete. But for many living along the wall, the issue of how to best regulate the border is not clear cut.

Vice News traveled to the US-Mexico border to talk to people from El Paso, Texas to Naco, Arizona to find out what impact the wall and years of failed policies have had for people along the border.

"We build a 30' wall and someone is going to build a 31' ladder"

I didn’t see it mentioned in this video but there’s a huge biological issue happening at the border with animal migration routes. This new build has changed everything. I grew up in Tucson and I always remember there being a wall just not to this extent. Food for thought!

It should be appreciated that at the end - whether for or against the wall - they all seemed to agree that this is a band-aid and there's a better solution for ALL of the problems if people actually did the work.

Doug Ruopp, thank you for your commitment to help. I was born in a 3rd world country and I know, without a future for your kids, my parents would have done anything to give us a better tomorrow. It’s easy to judge someone, but very hard to be in their shoes, even for 1 day. Please keep up the great work. May God bless us, all.

I don't understand. Why can't they just come through the legal way, with a visa and everything instead of climbing a friggin' wall?

We don't treat Canada like this because they're not constantly sneaking into our boarder, in fact, nobody from Canada does, learn to solve your own problems in your own country instead of bringing them here

The Indigenous people of America or Native Americans should've built a wall hundreds of years ago, so everyone else couldn't come over illegally.

people install fences in their backyards to prevent things as simple as their animals escaping, but somehow installing a barrier across the border that would provide additional security is a bad idea. I can't see how anyone could actually have that perspective.

A fence might not fix everything but it helps many things.
