Ashley is a soil scientist who has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her p
ost-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley’s interests are YouTube, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s YouTube channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her YouTube channel as well as her reach to up-and-coming gardeners.

I overwintered 9 plants last year; only 2 made it until Spring.
Now I know it's probably because they weren't going into dormancy; thanks for the video. I will be paying closer attention this time.

I have one hatch chilli that is going into his 8th winter to my basement. Luckily I have a basement that isn't used for anything else so all my peppers go to the basement naked but in the same soil. Thanks for the tips.

My old pepper trees are 15 years old.
I dont consider them plants anymore, those things are trees at this point. ^^
Here in Portugal temps reach around minus 3/4 Celsius so they endure Winter very well.

We are in zone 5 near niagra falls… it’s October 5 and still close to 90F outdoors. My poor peppers (and other veg) is still flowering. Frosts supposed to hit next week. Not sure there is much we can do for these drastic climate changes happening. Ive lost some things, but others are confused (the crocus have all come back) 😢 Thanks for the info and the video!!

I put a root ball that I’m transplanting into a container of water and gently swish it around to get the old soil off. I hate starting peppers, I’m going to try this. Thanks gurl

I've seen a few videos on this topic, and had mostly poor results. Thank you for your take on overwintering peppers. This is the best one I've seen and now I think I'll have better success.

I was able to over winter and grow Cubanelle peppers and jalapeños, indoors on a South facing window. They came out great even in winter daylight hrs!

I watched other videos on overwintering peppers last year and all my peppers died or got sick and then died. Watching your video I see SO MANY things to keep in mind that I didn't know about. Thank you! I had given up on trying to overwinter peppers, but will see if any of them that I have this year are going dormant naturally like you say and then follow your steps!

I brought in some pepper plants last year to overwinter. Love the details you gave. I did put one back out into the cold, because of aphids. I didn't do too much right! I had 2 survive and I put them outside early summer. They finally are producing peppers!! Just in time to for summer to end.
I might try again, following your instructions.
Thanks for a great video!!

We cut them back to about 4 inches of stem and keep them on the dry side until February. No sterile soil as beneficial soil microbes seem to give plants a stronger immune system.

I sure wish that the last time I grew peppers, that I had overwintered them.. They were very healthy, very strong. I didn't know. Now I do. Next time! Thanks Ashley!

Excellent video and information given clearly. You cover the subject simply, but I'm depth, that others don't necessarily make clear. Thank You!
