Meet Tim

Timothy Keller is the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, which he started in 1989 with his wife, Kathy, and three young sons. For 28 years he led a diverse congregation of young professionals that grew to a weekly attendance of over 5,000.

He is also the Chairman & Co-Founder of Redeemer City to City (CTC), which starts new churches in New York and other global cities, and publishes books and resources for ministry in an urban environment. In 2017 Dr. Keller transitioned to CTC full time to teach and mentor church planters and seminary students through a joint venture with Reformed Theological Seminary's (RTS), the City Ministry Program. He also works with CTC's global affiliates to launch church planting movements.

Dr. Keller’s books, including the New York Times bestselling The Reason for God and The Prodigal God, have sold over 2 million copies and been translated into 25 languages.

Christianity Today has said, “Fifty years from now, if evangelical Christians are widely known for their love of cities, their commitment to mercy and justice, and their love of their neighbors, Tim Keller will be remembered as a pioneer of the new urban Christians.”

Dr. Keller was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and educated at Bucknell University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Westminster Theological Seminary. He previously served as the pastor of West Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Hopewell, Virginia, Associate Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, and Director of Mercy Ministries for the Presbyterian Church in America.

Life is complicated. You want to get it right. I want to help.”

More than 10.5 million of his messages are consumed monthly through television, YouTube, podcasts, and other digital mediums, underscoring his impact not only as a communicator but also as an influencer of culture.

He is a best-selling author of over 20 books, including: Parenting: Getting It Right; Not In It to Win It; Better Decisions, Fewer Regrets; Irresistible; The New Rules for Love, Sex & Dating; How to Be Rich; When Work & Family Collide; and Visioneering.

Andy has a deep passion for teaching and engaging with live audiences, which he has pursued for over three decades at leadership events around the world. As a sought-after communicator, he speaks at various annual events before audiences of both church and organizational leaders.

“I cannot fill their cups,” he often says of the opportunity to impact leaders, “but I have a responsibility to empty mine.”

Husband to Sandra and father of three grown children, Andy founded North Point Ministries (NPM) in Atlanta in 1995. NPM has since grown to eight church campuses in metro Atlanta and a network of nearly 180 churches around the globe, serving hundreds of thousands of people. An Outreach Magazine survey of U.S. pastors identified him as one of the 10 most influential pastors in America.

Andy earned a journalism degree from Georgia State University and a graduate degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.

John MacArthur is the pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church, as well as an author, conference speaker, chancellor of The Master's University and Seminary, and featured teacher with the Grace to You media ministry.

In 1969, after graduating from Talbot Theological Seminary, John came to Grace Community Church. The emphasis of his pulpit ministry is the careful study and verse-by-verse exposition of the Bible, with special attention devoted to the historical and grammatical background behind each passage. Under John's leadership, Grace Community Church's two morning worship services fill the 3,500-seat auditorium to capacity. Several thousand members participate every week in dozens of fellowship groups and training programs, most led by lay leaders and each dedicated to equipping members for ministry on local, national, and international levels.

I recommend that everyone who watches this listen to the wonderful sermons on YouTube by Tim Keller. He preaches the Gospel so faithfully and points skeptics to Jesus while not wasting time tearing down other believers. I am grieved by this interview.

Integrity demands it be noted that 4:56 Tim Keller did expository preaching as his standard for the run of his pastoral career. He advises it in his book on preaching. His thoughts on culture and context are theologically sound and richly biblically informed. JMac has a bad habit of “calling out” people without knowing much about what the actually do or say (for which he himself ought to be “called out”)

I love John McArthur’s faithfulness to God’s Word. But putting Tim Keller and Andy Stanley in the same box would be misleading to people. Andy Stanley is clearly out of Orthodoxy in a sense. But Tim Keller is in a place where we can attribute his approach to ministry in the realm of things that people may disagree on given that when one listens to his sermons and reads his books (for those who read him), he still maintains gospel-centrality. I’m afraid to say that sometimes we might call out people just because their approach to ministry is different from ours and even because we haven’t carefully listened and read them (this sentence doesn’t apply to Andy Stanley because what he is doing is clearly unbiblical; it only applies to people like Tim Keller who are imperfectly trying to be faithful as they see how to be relevant where God has placed them). I thought I’d share this so that we may not only seek to be separated but also be united where we need to be united (we don’t want to be identified by what we are against as though we don’t have what we stand for; we want to make a case based on what we stand for).

Jeremiah 29:7
English Standard Version
7 But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

Or as MacArthur would say, “urban renewal.”

I pray that John McArthur repent of the calvinistic heresy and political involvement. He's misleading so many people.

Please explain Why do calvinists teach that we must be born again (regenerated) by the Spirit to newness of life before we can believe in Christ if Christ is the only way to the Father (John 14:6)? How can we approach the Father before we approach Christ?

I've been listening to Tim Keller for over a decade probably a thousand sermons and not one time have I heard him say on thing that wasnt in line with the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is ridiculous.

Andy has forfeited his right to be heard speaking on Christian marriage due to his liberal theological views.
