I think i enjoyed my rant about The count of monte cristo more than the book ha, but i am glad i read it. Not all reading experiences have to be fantastic but still fulfilling.

Yay... 2022... we'll be going from "2020 won" to "2020 too".
At least getting more Bookborn content will continue to be a highlight.

Last line of East of Eden also blew me away. I read mostly fantasy and scifi and then sprinkle in fiction, mystery, and classics throughout the year :D

You are so absolutely right about 100 Years of Solitude. It has mass appeal somehow but it is such a weird read and you absolutely need the historical background and even some info in the author to pick up on everything going on. No one ever really discusses this aspect of reading the book, most people just praise it and move on which feels misleading! Thanks for bringing it up :)

First I want to say that when I found your channel it quickly became my favorite booktube channel. You are more analytical than some of the others I watch and that really appeals to me and we seem to have similar tastes. Keep up the great work.
This year I have really gotten back into reading prose again and I'm so happy about that. For years I have basicly only read comics/graphic novels and had kind of forgotten how much I love prose. I read all of Cosmere this year except Wax & Wayne 3 and the short stories. Next year I really want to read some classics. I'm from Sweden so that includes some swedish classics as well, everything I read this year was in english so it will be nice to read some books in my first language. Also plan to read more female authors in 2022 with all those Sanderson books and the comics I read a vast majority of what I read was written by male authors. Have The Fifth Season and Piranesi liked up for that.

Never knew a book community like this existed until I stumbled upon it watching your reviews on WOT. Then some of your other videos and subscribed.
Just finished reread of Dragon reborn after 15 years and only my 5th book this year. Average was 30 per year sadly but 5 years ago I couldn't find anything that was worth the time.
Huge fantasy fan but the book stores in South Africa does not have a broad range....
I am listening to your recommendations and hope to find something to spark my interests again.
Thank you for your time and honesty.
Enjoy the festive season with your family and friends.

2021 wasn't my best year for reading. I went from 30 in 2020 to 12 in 2021 but I feel 2022 will be another strong year. I lost interest during summer but it's slowly picking up since September and now I'm once again pushing 1000 pages books in 3-4 days. I'll get there!

Try Norwegian Wood by Murakami. This was my intro into Magical Realism and now I'm hooked on the genre.

I read the count of monte crisco and east of Eden in high school and re-read/listened to them in 2020. Both are excellent stories that have stood the test of time. I must have read the abridged version of count in high school because I didn’t remember it being so long. Another great sloggish book is Les Misérables. Oh my, too much descriptions of Marius’s love for Cosette!

I just make priority lists for what i want to read and have ideas of other ambiguous goals, not quantifiable goals (not a fan). But i think i like to keep in mind sub genres i want to read more of and emphasize outside of my priority list.

Terry Pratchett is awesome and the Discworld books are amazing. I think they should be read in the order they were written, even though they all sort of stand on their own, because they do build on each other.
The Murderbot series is great. I also highly recommend anything by Larry Niven (SF), Dave Duncan (F), Tanya Huff (SF), Elizabeth Moon and the Alvin Maker series and the Gatefather series by Orson Scott Card.

I'm trying to pick up some classics in 2022 but the Count of Monte Cristo is NOT on the list, that book is massive 😂 Congrats on finishing that tome! If you're still reading classics in 2022 (even though that is now not a specific goal) I'd love to join.

I need to start Discworld. Like you said it's just soooo easy to keep pushing forward because 'they're so short, I can get to them anytime!' but then I just don't get to them... Hopefully I can read just a couple in 2022.

Love your philosophy on reading goals! For me, reading is just about the only aspect of my life that isn't fully structured and planned-out, so I normally don't like to set goals either. However, there are some intentions for the new year that I want to try to implement into my reading. For example, I want to read even more self-published books, I want to keep reading outside of SFF, I want to focus on reading instalments in series closer together so that I don't lose interest or forget details and I want to give myself the freedom to read less if I feel like doing other hobbies instead. No numbers, no pressure, just some things to use as rough guidelines! Loved hearing about your goals, can't wait to hear your thoughts on all the Discworld books as you make your way throught them! Happy Holidays! :)

I just finished a reread of Wheel of Time, this time the speedbump was not book 7-10 but the last three books. Reading them all one of the others the difference in language in Sandersons arc really hit harder then the first time I read them. I found the last book to be the worst one in the series and book 4 the best.

Have you read the Malazan Book of the Fallen series? Highly recommend if not, it ranks higher than Wheel of Time for me. Its a big commitment, 10 book series averaging probably 800 pages a book. I have read it all the way through 3 times because it is still by far the most well written books I have ever experienced so after I try a few other new series that are never up to par with them I find myself going back for a reread since nothing else compares and they are so intricate that I am always finding things I missed or connecting new dots each time.

I've recently discovered your channel and loved your analysis of the "age of non-literacy" question; your comments on Grimdark and with The Witcher series have also been great to watch. This one has been interesting for me for a couple of reasons. Firstly, you read Alice and loved it!! that's awesome - I love those books so much. Also I love that you'll be aiming to read Hugo winners next year....that will be a bit of an adventure - tons of great ideas in those books but you may find some of them are dated with the gender stereotypes etc....some of my favourite books are previous winners though...

My 2022 goal is a writing one. To follow along with Sanderson and write as many words as he does. (Given he's writing Stormlight 5.... its going to be a bumpy ride.)

Don`t know about the goal, but I definitely want to finish WoT books, I am currently on the 5th book. + I love your idea to read Hugo award winners, it sounds super fun! Want to do in it too!

You will read EVERY Hugo winner with me dammit!
Haha
Hope we find some new favourites!
Might try my hand at '100 years of solitude' next year. For some reason I've always wanted to read some Alexandre Dumas too.
