Ingredients

For the marinade:
2 lb. bone-in skin-on chicken pieces mix of cuts
1 cup buttermilk *
¼ cup hot sauce
1 teaspoon EACH paprika garlic powder, black pepper, salt

For the breading:
1 cup flour
½ cup corn starch or replace with more flour
1 teaspoon EACH paprika garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper
Oil for spraying chicken Canola, Peanut, Vegetable, or olive oil

Instructions
Combine buttermilk, hot sauce, and spices for the marinade in a large bowl. Add chicken and mix to combine. Cover and marinate up to 24 hours or use right away.
Pre-heat air-fryer to 375F.

In a medium shallow bowl, whisk the flour, cornstarch, and spices for breading. Drizzle 2-3 tablespoons of the buttermilk batter into the flour mixture and mix it through with a fork.

Working with 1 piece at a time, dredge chicken the flour mixture and press flour on the top chicken to form a thick crust. Transfer chicken to a Pre-heated air fryer in a single layer without overlapping. You may need to work in batches if needed.

Generously spray chicken with oil. Set the Air-fryer to 30 minutes and start. After 15 minutes, flip the chicken and lightly spray the other side with oil. Continue cooking for 10 minutes or until chicken is golden and the internal temperature reaches 165°. Repeat with the remaining chicken as needed.

Looks wickedly delicious! I am going to try this recipe. I just wanted to tell everyone that you should never use aerosol sprays like Pam, etc., in your air fryer. These sprays have propellants and other things in them that will degrade the non-stick coating on your air fryer. Better to put a little oil in a bowl and use a silicone or other brush to lightly brush the food with the oil. This is what I do, and it works great. 👍

This worked out well. Two notes: 35 min is too long if your chicken is boneless and the amount of hot sauce called for does not actually result in spicy chicken, in case that’s what was expected.

Okay, so I tried this recipe and ran into some problems when it came to breading. I'm wondering if someone could help. Here were my problems
1) Breading sticking to the air fryer. Basically when I went to turn at 15 minutes, one piece of chicken had it's breading completely come off because it was stuck to the air fryer. I preheated it and I even wiped down the inside with a coat of cooking oil while preheating. Not sure what I did wrong there.
2) Even on the other chicken, the breading didn't turn out well. It wasn't so much that it was raw, more that it wasn't what I was expecting. It seemed hard in some places, just fell off in other places, It didn't seem like it was really connected to the chicken, it was just this hardened mess that wasn't all that great.
I'm wondering if I used too much cooking spray or did something else wrong.
