I heard a theory once that any firebender could make Blue flames but it was inefficient because it required more effort. Azula is the only one that bothers because she was brought up only getting validation from her talent and difference

Blue flames are hotter than orange flames. Imagine how bad it hurt to get burned by Azula.

Blue flame indicates perfect combustion. There is enough oxygen supplied to react with the fuel. (For those of you with gas stoves, try setting it to the minimum, you will see blue flames; but when you turn it up, you will see some orange flames because not all of the gaseous fuel is combusted.)

An explanation such as "Azula is a perfectionist to the point of being able to control the temperature of her own flames" would be more satisfying, if I may be allowed to say so. 😄

100% believe that Azula could’ve surpassed Ozai, Iroh, and Zuko if she had reached her prime and perhaps wasn’t so psychotic. She was just a kid and is still to this day the only example we have of a blue firebender.

Another thing to note is "Azula" is very similar to the word "Azul"(blue in Spanish).

Blue fire is also created with high amounts of sodium. Therefore her flames are blue because she is salty of the time.

Azula's flames are blue because a blue flame is considered "perfect combustion" and Azula is a perfectionist. So naturaly, she has perfected firebending. At least from her perspective

It would've been nice if her flames had turned back to orange at the end of ATLA as she was losing her sanity and confidence.

While during the Comet, when all Firebenders were tenfold, at least, no one else fired blue. Blue Flame uses everything in its reaction, to my recollection, a "perfect flame" if you will. So, her perfectionist nature would lead to her creating the "perfect fire", Blue fire.

Fun fact: in the comics (Smoke and Shadow storyline) Zuko learns how to bend dragon fire.

Azula is a perfectionist. That's why it blue. She's perfected that art, and it's hotter than even Ozais and Irohs

Also, Iroh explained it one episode where he said that Azula is so cold-blooded that her flames turned blue by the result of that.

apparently she learnt to open her chakras much like aang did with the guru and when she opened all of them she got blue fire which resembles pure fire and it burns hotter than dirty fire which is orange fire
