Okay so Tim Burton got called a thief but he's not a thief. Got it.

Plus he’s still not a thief cause he created the characters and ideas, right?

It’s call Bram Stoker’s Dracula but Francis Ford Coppola directed it. It was Burton’s story and characters so it make sense for his name to be above the title.

Technically the movie was Tim Burton’s original idea

I think it's well established that Tim had minimal involvement in Nightmare. Sadly mainstream people aren't too interested in the actual talent behind some films, they're mostly interested in name recognition. So I don't blame Disney for slapping his name on it. Henry is well known to animation enthusiasts, especially for his work in Coraline.

Tim Burton looks like someone from a Tim Burton movie

Anything with Danny Elfman doing the soundtrack is Burton's. To have him as Jack Skellington just makes it even more of a Burton movie.

I’m actually kind of relieved to hear this as a Tim burton fan because I love his movies but have never really gotten into NBC

This is my first time learning Tim Burton didn't direct Nightmare before Christmas. I like that they credited the movie to him though, as it was his idea.

It's like an architect creating the perfect masterpiece on blueprint, handing it to someone to build, then getting shit on for putting their name on it. I swear people are so f'n dumb

Tim Burton has always said it’s not his film. He’s never claimed it as his own work, only the work he’s done for the film.

I’m so sick of these over-privileged, elitist people on X or whatever internet platform starting drama over the most menial garbage. The world has so much injustice and suffering right now, and people are really starting drama over something that literally doesn’t matter.

He stole credit for his own idea, what a bastard 😂

It’s very untrue that he was hardly involved. He was there virtually everyday. Every creative decision was his choice.

he’s not a thief if it was his idea. contractual issues were the only thing stopping him from being the director. i saw a comment saying about dracula being called bram stoker’s dracula and another person directed it. and that’s kinda the same thing here. he wasn’t able to direct so someone else directed it and he produced it. but it was his ideas. so he’s not the thief

Sure he may not have been completely involved but that wasn’t his fault, plus he created those characters from his own short stories, and yes Henry put himself into jack as well as Danny but without Tim we wouldn’t have Jack. So he deserves credit because he’s the father figure and sure both Henry and Danny are sergeant fathers and deserve just as much. But blame Disney for trying to play tug a war with Jack like he was Mickey

It's amazing that anyone is arguing about this, but I suppose that's the kind of cesspool Twitter/X is. Burton didn't ask for it- but honestly, if he had asked for some form of credit, that wouldn't have been a bad thing. They were adapting his work to make the movie. That someone else directed it doesn't change the fact that the original ideas were Burton's. As someone mentioned above, we still credit Bram Stoker for Dracula. We also acknowledge Mary Shelley for Frankenstein, Charles Addams for the Addams Family, and Edgar Allan Poe for his multiple adapted works. There are exceptions- for example, Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan, doesn't seem to have appeared in movie credits in a very long time- but for the most part we give credit for ideas.

The text at the end of your video says 'Andy Sellick' instead of 'Henry Selick'
