I love the respect jake has for Holt in this scene, refusing to defend his actions because he knows his reasoning would hurt Holt

this show really uses jake’s personality to make you forget that he’s actually a total badass 😂😂

The fact that Jake stood up for Holt when he's had to deal with persecution his whole career makes this scene 10x's more powerful to me. ❤

It was this moment that made captain Holt adopt Jake as his son

"He wouldn't know a real cop, if he punched him in the face". Great line

Honestly love this scene a lot. Not just because he punched a homophobe but because he defended his morals and his boss

The guy had been a hero for Jake. He had respect for Holt at this time but didn't have him as a father figure. That was the guy he punched. This was a moment a lot of people go through. It's the death of who you wanted to be at the expense of some you're trying to be now and finding out they're not compatible. Jake realises that it's Holt that is the man he wants to be. Strong, compassionate, loyal.

This is such a powerful scene, the actor that plays holt is so amazing at subtlety. Being persecuted his entire career for who he is on the outside and on the inside and he finally has a team that sees him for the great man he is

This show has some great scenes on things like this, this scene, when terry talks to holt about being a “black man” after being stopped for no reason, list could go on for ages

1:30 Andy’s face went tells so many emotions without saying anythingm shock, anger, disappointment, realizing he’s hero isn’t a hero, this is great acting right here

I love how you can tell Jake gets really angry, but its very subtle (except for when he punches that guy in the face)

Funny how all it takes for Amy to fall apart is Holt saying “I’m disappointed in you, I thought you and I were close”

Holt's face as Amy leaves the room: "Huh. Guess I'm a dad now."

This is how you do good representation.

A son defending his dad's honour. That's highly respectable.

This show had one of the top 5 most beautiful romantic kissse ever. When Holt and Kevin ran towards eachother in the rain, it was tearjerking. That and scenes like this show that B99 is way more than just a cop comedy. They really manage to tackle complex issues in a way that sheds light without trying to guilt-trip the viewer or seem overly preachy. Just a "Yo, let folks be themselves"

I think there's more to it than Jake didn't wanna hurt holt. All episode holt tells jake not to idolise these guys, he realises what he's been supporting so takes his punishment bc he feels like he deserves it, not for punching the guy, but for him idolising him before. If he told holt, holt would've been understanding and jake didn't want that
