Ageing is reversible -- in glass, physicists find | Science News

According to the fundamental laws of physics, every process is reversible, in principle. In the past years, we have seen several experiments in which physicists study whether this is really the case or if not irreversibility creeps back in somewhere. In this new experiment, a group of physicists found to their own surprise that ageing in glass seems to be reversible.

In my opinion, this is your best kind of content: videos that express really nerdy, technical findings in a manner comprehensible to the layman. This video enthralled me.

We reduce entropy each time we assemble a puzzle or Ikea furniture. So Maxwell daemon is not the only one who can do that.

They better hurry up, im at my physical peak and it's only downhill from here.

I found your channel by accident. I feel like I’ve been missing out… You’re quirky and funny and incredibly smart. Truly a special person and a role model. I shared one of your videos with my daughters and they loved you.

I started seeing articles of this about a week ago and glad to have a great breakdown

Don't worry about aging, you're a timeless beauty

IMHO, this really exposes a flaw in the way that some people define time in terms of entropy. The relationship between time and entropy is clearly correlative, but I've seen nothing that demonstrates it to be causative. Yet, many people believe it is causative.

Reminds me of anatomy. How doctors started examining corpses. It was the start of modern medicine but it took over hundred years to make any important progress.

I learned 3 things from this video:

1. Gasses can't be purple
2. Rage, against metastable equilibration
3. The glass is always half demonic 👹

That's about what I told myself. As soon as I manage to learn numbers, it's just a small step to understand math. I'm still stuck trying to calculate how small of a step that actually is.

I remember hearing that glass panes in old old houses tend to 'melt' a little, which causes visible distortion along the bottom of the pane. Is that an example of glass 'ageing?'

Exercise is a great way to reverse entropy in the body.

The experiment of the reversal of the arrow of time was realized by my supervisor, here in Brazil!!!

Großartige Neuigkeiten! Auch die Verbreitung von derartigen Neuigkeiten bringt die Wissenschaft voran.

I remember reading about a type II perpetuum mobile. It's something that transfers heat from something colder to something hotter. A Maxwell demon is a type II perpetuum mobile. The article mentions that you can connect it to a heat engine to generate energy. (I'd mention that it would need to be heat up because the sink receives less energy than the heater gives. They don't.) The design suggested there was as follows: Make two halves of ellipsoids with the same foci, but different size. Make them mirror inside. Add a flat mirror that connects them and is in the plane of points equidistant to the foci. Put two material points in the foci

I have never seen a formula where "information" is part of the formula. Btw., what is the unit of information in the MKSA system?

Nice shout out to Bryan Johnson's anti-aging journey/experiment.
