My favourite line from a comedy act when asked if they wanted extra insurance on a rental was “yes, this car is going to see more air than a skateboard at the x-games”!! 😃

I worked at rent car company if it takes too long for the insurance to pay for damage than you and anyone on the agreement will be banned from renting from any company because they all use a business that records all info on anyones rental agreement and history you have been on

first of all - it is not insurance - its coverage. And what folks don't realize is that if they take just the coverage to protect the vehicle - it absolutely covers the vehicle 100%. If something happens to the vehicle during the customer rental period the rental company will take the key and the customer walks away - not having to deal with a deductible from their insurance and not to mention the hustle of all the calls back and forth between the rental company and their insurance company...sure, I agree that maybe taking coverage for vehicle, passengers, luggage, and liability maybe a bit much, I still recommend taking the coverage for the vehicle. When your on vacation, your on vacation, and the last thing anyone wants to deal with is their insurance company because a deer ran out and hit you, or some idiot wasnt paying attention and runs a red light. Let the rental companies work for you, not the other way around.

Thanks. I don't rent often but have found it confusing when I do. It seems like the rental car people try to push their insurance options.

People fail to understand that your personal insurance does not like to pay for car damage that is not your personal car. They give rental car companies a hard time when it comes ro this. Your personal insurance usually does not cover loss of use. That means the time that it takes to repair the vehicle, means it can't be rented, so the company is losing money. Many people do not look at this side of things and are very misinformed.

What about scenario 5 - you're foreign, therefore dont have personal insurance (or have simple travel insurance) and dont have an american credit card?
