He seems to know exactly what he was doing. That horse was spent! you could tell by the strides, he had no more to give. Good on the jockey for being humane and not killing the horse for a win.

So much nonsense commented on this thread. The jockey is pushing the horse to what he thinks is the finishing line but was actually the half-furlong marker. Eased him down from there and patted him down the neck to congratulate the horse for 'winning'. The other pair of horses ride out to the line and pass him. Absolutely nothing to do with easing him down cos he was tired and allowing the others past 😂 deary me. Lengthy ban for the jockey too no doubt

Good jock, he knew when the horse was at its limit and ceased all meaning of forcing it do overexert itself. This is no fault of the jockey or horse, it’s actually good
horseman ship and a phenomenal understanding of his steed. Do NOT Say “What was he thinking!!” Because he was thinking about the horses’s future, and what was good for the horse. Just because they don’t win, doesn’t mean they weren’t thinking. This jockey let the horse rest when it was done, unlike so many others in this sport who push and push until the horse has to stop their career early because of injuries and detrimental damage due to being pushed too roughly. This jockey responded to the horses’s communication and signals wonderfully, and this is defiantly one of the kindest things I’ve seen during a race. Nice job jock. ❤

he mistook the winning post he thought he was over the finishing line that is why he was given the horse a slap just an inexperienced jockey an apprentice no doubt he will be disappointed more than anyone for messing up just happens sometimes

Reading the comments has rendered me speechless, the horse was not 'done' and it was nothing close to 'good horsemanship'. It is as clear as a bell the jockey made an error of judgement, he wasnt the first and wont be the last.

I really can see mistakes can happen. Definitely not cheating. My girlfriend treated me bad and within an hour after I went to grocery, grabbed few things in my hands, walked passed the register and walked out the store and went all the way to my car, at that moment I realized I didn’t pay my groceries. I ran back to store and paid my stuff. Events in your life can cause you so many unwanted mistakes…..
